Would it be an idea to set up this as a permenant topic in it's own right, a bit like the meet-up topic. So people can post their child's basic details (age, sex and likes) and see if they get a response?

I think that as long as we agree it is our responsibility to check out the mum of the child our kids are writing to there shouldn't be a problem. Exchange a few emails or talk over the phone or just look out for them on threads. Once you are happy you can give get started. I completely see people's concerns but I think I will feel comfortable once I've got to know the other mum a bit.

Thanks for the suggestion.
Why don't you keep an eye on the penpals' progress and if you still think it's a good idea we'll discuss at the next meeting.
We're keeping Tech very busy in his shed at the moment, so even if we choose to go ahead, it won't be for a while.
Thanks

Because of the element of surprise to COVs thread, just use what we've got, and that have checked out as regulars - and get going. I think it's a fab idea. No need to make it a regular topic or advertise. It's just a thread follow up via CAT.

It may all fizzle by the middle of the summer holidays ...
