What has happened to the zombie thread warning ?

AnyFucker · 30/08/2017 00:02

A few threads I have clicked on today have been several years old.

The warning has gone ! Please bring it back.

OP posts:

People would still have to understand what the colour meant, though.

NomDePlumeReloaded · 30/08/2017 14:39

All this revival of ancient threads is utterly maddening. I should ignore it but it's like an itch I just have to scratch. Come on MNHQ, sort it out.

SnickersWasAHorse · 30/08/2017 16:18

People would still have to understand what the colour meant, though.

It would be very easy. Red background and then a banner above the op, just like you get when MNHQ comment on a thread, saying, this post is x years x days old.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 30/08/2017 17:39

Couldn't they change the font of the date it was posted?

Larger, in bold and red.

They drive me mad, and I only cotton on when I see a poster name that I know isn't in use any more.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 31/08/2017 08:36

Or maybe a thick grey background that makes it harder to read the posts...

AfunaMbatata · 31/08/2017 08:40

I thought they'd said they removed the zombie warning as it scared newbies. Confused

The threads should just be locked after 18 months or so.

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 31/08/2017 08:41

OMG - really? "Scared" newbies? They're in the wrong place if that scares them! Grin

endehors · 31/08/2017 08:58

I mentioned this on another thread, other posters had experienced similar. If you come onto Mumsnet via a Google search, the highlighted dates next to the thread titles are all 2017 dates. If you're not familiar with the site I'd imagine it's easy to bump up an old thread.

tigerdriverII · 31/08/2017 09:01

It's such a waste of time.

Mind you, I clicked unknowingly on one recently and found myself vigorously agreeing with a poster. I was about to post namechecking her when I realised I was agreeing with myself on a name change Grin

That sounds like the poster who replied to her own request for views on a pram.

endehors · 31/08/2017 14:50

I remember that, hiding. That's going back some years isn't it!

AuntieStella · 31/08/2017 17:11

"All threads should be locked 18months after the last post to everyone but the OP."

I think this is a good idea

@HidingBehindTheWallpaper I loved that thread!

I contacted the op via pm/CAT but she didn't reply.

I might try and find it again!

ThumbWitchesAbroad · 01/09/2017 05:29

I remember that pram one as well - hilarious!

Zombie threads really irritate me. I've spent ages reading/posting on some of them - only to find that the OP was 7, 8 or even 10 years ago. FFS.
The idea of locking them after - say - a year to everyone except the OP is really good, and would avoid a lot of annoyance.

Hi all - we do understand that this is a bit of a bugbear and the revision of the zombie warning is on Tech's big list. Sorry it's taking a while - they've got a fair amount on at the mo, but it's coming, we promise.

sandymumsnet · 14/11/2017 14:40

It's been in the pipeline for quite a while, but we've finally got an update with regards to Zombie threads...

The new zombie warning will be going live this afternoon. If a thread hasn't been posted on for over a year, the potential poster will get this new warning with a link to start a new thread, "Heads up - this thread has not been posted on for over a year. Why not start a new thread instead? " and then even if the thread is bumped, it won't appear in active.

We hope this eases some of the frustration revolving around these kinds of threads and thanks so much for bearing with us.

PanPanPanPing · 14/11/2017 16:03

This is good news sandy. Thanks for the heads up. I'm now going to wander off to find some old threads to check out the new zombie warning!

paxillin · 14/11/2017 21:25

At my mum's work, they get a tap dancing bear filling the whole screen when trying to access an unauthorised website. I think this would be the only thing which helps. A tap dancing zombie perhaps.
