Why have the Last 15 minutes/Last hour/Last Day lists changed?

In these three sections, you used to get all the relevant threads, arranged by subsection (AIBU/CLassics/etc) - but now it is a random list, and you don't even get all the threads from that time period - you have to scroll to the bottom and load more.

It looks disorganised and chaotic, and is off-putting to try to read. Please change it back!!

Agree - and if I click to load more, they all disappear and it says 'no threads found'.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/08/2017 13:34

Yes - it is a total mess.

I would normally spend time every morning, reading through the Last Hour thread list, and clicking on the threads that seem interesting - it was pretty much the first thing I'd do on the computer each day. But today I looked at the first few items on the list, tried to load more items, and basically gave up, because the current arrangement is so chaotic and off-putting.

MN used to be an important part of my day - but if this carries on, I can see me not bothering to try to find the interesting threads, or the threads where I can make a helpful contribution - because it is so difficult to find them from amongst the mish-mash mixture of threads. I just won't bother coming here, if the experience does not improve.

MNHQ - this change is NOT an improvement - it makes the site significantly less pleasant and easy to use, and it will lose you members. Please change it back ASAP.

Thanks for the feedback and apologies for the less than pleasant outcome of the changes. We've had to limit the number of results we show on those pages for performance reasons, with the site growing and the sheer volume of posts every day.

However, @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius you're absolutely right in that the results on those pages would be a lot more useful if grouped by topic like they used to be, and the topics then sorted alphabetically again as they used to be. I will work on getting that changed for you.

Thanks for your patience while we sort that out.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 16/08/2017 14:55

Thank-you, @ShamTech!

Lalalandfill · 16/08/2017 17:41

Thank you ShamTech, I'm having exactly the same problem and it's hugely off putting - fair enough not to show all on the same page but they really do need to be categorised again or it's cacophony

almondfinger · 16/08/2017 21:47

Here, here. Have been avoiding mumsnet due to this new look of jumbled up items.

blueshoes · 17/08/2017 11:40

Thanks, ShamTech. I await the reinstatement of the previous order for all the reasons already stated.

The current set up is already performed by Active and no need to duplicate that display in Last Hour etc.

ShamTech · 17/08/2017 14:15

The Last 15/hour/day pages should now be ordered by topic name and then by last post time within topic. Hope that helps and thanks again for all the feedback. Let me know if anything else is needed.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 17/08/2017 18:10

The organisation is better now, but is the system correctly picking up all the threads? When I looked at Last Hour this morning, there were only a few threads - only 20-odd, where I usually see 50+. You don't get anywhere near the normal number of threads in Last Hour, even if you click on 'Show More'.

Please can we have some sort of system that shows us all the threads that have ben posted on in the previous hour, first time, WITHOUT having to click on show more.

OP posts:
Lalalandfill · 18/08/2017 09:15

I agree, I've a similar routine to SDTG Smile, only I click on last 15 and since this "upgrade" I'm seeing only a handful of threads even when I click see more. I can't believe MN traffic slowing down so much coincides with this change.

Lalalandfill · 18/08/2017 09:56

I've just looked at Last Day and it only shows 20 threads! So definitely something is not right ... ShamTech pleeeease put right Flowers

ShamTech · 18/08/2017 11:51

@Lalalandfill and @SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius based on your feedback, we've now raised the limits on these pages. It should now show up to 50 threads, and if you click Show more at the bottom, it will show up to 100 threads. Thanks. (I'm rubbish at choosing the right smiley so just pretend I've put the relevant one here)

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 18/08/2017 12:12

Thank you, @ShamTech.

After Active I also went on to Last Day in case I'd missed something interesting. Now it's restricted to 50 it's basically a repeat of Active, so totally pointless. (I tried loading more but it didn't work).

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 20/08/2017 14:04

@ShamTech - what if there are more than 100 threads from the past hour? I can't shake the feeling that I am now seeing far fewer threads in that section than I ever used to, even on a slow day.

OP posts:
ShamTech · 21/08/2017 09:25

@SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius I will look into this and let you know later today. Thanks.

slug · 21/08/2017 12:47

Agreed. If I'm looking for all the threads in the last hour, I want to see all of them, not a randomly truncated section. Angry

ShamTech · 21/08/2017 14:03

I can increase the limit for the Last hour accordingly, but not Last Day as that will result in thousands of threads being displayed.

How about we get rid of Last Day as it's not really feasible to have it anymore given the volume of discussion these days on Mumsnet?

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 22/08/2017 13:10

I can't answer for other people, re. getting rid of Last Day, @ShamTech - it wouldn't bother me, but I don't know if other people use it.

All I can say is that I would really like to be able to see all the threads from the past hour, in Last Hour - as we used to be able to do. I don't know how you select which threads I see, and which I don't, and can't shake the feeling that I am missing interesting threads or ones where I might be able to make a helpful or supportive contribution.

I will be absolutely honest - this is driving me away from your site. I don't see the point in spending time here, if I am only going to see a few threads.

If I use an iPad or PC which has not accessed Mumsnet since before the list debacle - I'm still seeing 500 posts in the Last Day list!

ShamTech · 22/08/2017 13:57

@rslsys could you possibly send through a screenshot of where it says 500 for you as it should say 50 and if you click 'Show more' it should say 100? Many thanks.

rslsys · 22/08/2017 17:23

I know what it should say, but I'm quite happy with my devices still showing 500 posts !

rslsys · 22/08/2017 17:28

Here you go

Why have the Last 15 minutes/Last hour/Last Day lists changed?
slug · 24/08/2017 13:12

Nope. Still not good.

Click "Last 15 Minutes" Scroll to the bottom of the page Click 'Show More' Only then does the last 15 minutes completely show.

That's one too many clicks and a scroll for what should be a simple search.
