Bad mother comedy series - episode 2

Hello all

If you haven't already, catch up with episode 2 of Bad Mother, a (quite sweary, very relatable) comedy web series airing exclusively on MN.

In episode 2, Laura Patch discovers that she's inadvertently become the 'default parent' - a position some of us may find eerily familiar :-D

Don't forget to like Mumsnet's Facebook page for updates when each new episode goes live - and catch up with .

Ah yes, the mental load. Love how she gets a large pinot grigio and forgets the kids 😂

Oblomov17 · 05/07/2017 18:15

She should have ordered herself a huge slice of cake aswell.

"Very relatable" -- if you are a walking-cliche of middle-class white north London motherhood

"Quite sweary" -- if you are a nun

I suppose that the good thing about parents of small children is that there is quite a rapid turnover of them, which means you can recycle the Outnumbered tropes almost endlessly without too many of them complaining.

@Bossa, I quite like the house too! characters less so

catinboo0ts · 05/07/2017 21:33

Awful, cringey and full of rubbish cliches

MumBod · 05/07/2017 21:44

Oh fgs.

Really?

Try harder. I'll write you a frigging script if you like.

TerfwithaNerf · 05/07/2017 22:18

Lazy, unfunny, derivative and sphincter-clenchingly middle class.

Must try harder MN.

Umpteenthnamechange · 05/07/2017 22:28

Please try doing something else!

Noteventhebestdrummer · 06/07/2017 05:06

Time for a new writing team - this really isn't impressing, sorry.

Movablefeast · 06/07/2017 05:14

Not funny, just annoying. You would avoid the main character like the plague.

Tottyandmarchpane1 · 06/07/2017 06:22

I enjoyed it! Would be nice if it could be a bit longer and therefore fleshed out a bit. Can people really not relate because she lives in a nice house 😀 I can remember that feeling of being on mat leave and having to do everything. I also think the glass of wine just shows how down you can get out it now and again (not that she has an alcohol problem!). I remember crying into a glass of wine at lunchtime when my first was about 3 months old wondering what on earth I had done. I look back now and laugh but at the time it all just seemed so huge.

troodiedoo · 06/07/2017 06:56

I hate to be mean about creative work, but that was a bit lame. Kind of just want to punch the main character.

UnaPalomaBlanca · 06/07/2017 08:48

Surprised by all the criticism. The clips are just a funny moment in my day. Only criticism would be they are too short...
Don't really identify with the main character socially or economically - I'm a broke widow living in a shabby house and my DCs are older- but I do identify with the 'mumming' bits and they make me laugh.

cottagecheesequeen · 06/07/2017 08:57

It's hard to identify with the main character. She has how many kids? I don't know because I never see her with them!

It's like watching a series on tv where the actor writers have forgotten that there's kids in it.

I also think casting could have been better for parent roles. As pp said you would avoid this woman in any situation she doesn't seem nice.

OlennasWimple · 06/07/2017 12:53

I think the actors are great, the production is great, but the story and script is terrible, sorry

RaspberryBeretHoopla · 06/07/2017 13:14

Nice one. I am enjoying them

Maudlinmaud · 06/07/2017 15:43

I'm still going to watch them but I don't find the mum very likeable and I did judge her. That being said my friend and I sit in the sunshine with a big glass of red whilst the dc fire nerfs at us. I'm sure the other neighbours talk.

123rd · 06/07/2017 16:29

Hmmm... glad it's not just me who didn't find it funny. As pp wrote, seemed quite lazy and predictable

SouthWestmom · 06/07/2017 19:10

I think it's the dialogue. No one says out loud what the actual fuck. They say what the fuck.

No bloke I know would invite an unknown wife friend to drink wine and wait for her to turn up.

And then show off like a twat.

LTBiscuit · 06/07/2017 19:33

I preferred the first episode.

Largebucket · 06/07/2017 21:28

Less "Bad Mother" and more "Pair of useless arses who thankfully found each other". Boring, she seems to need the bleeding obvious pointed out to her (middle class mummy with at least one kid at school has never realised this before - really?). And she might be the "default parent" but she clearly never has to worry about getting into a car at short notice.

Acting's good though.

Conniedescending · 06/07/2017 21:46

Yawn ......this is just outnumbered

Been done years ago nothing new but feeding the mum blog crap

FetchezLaVache · 06/07/2017 21:50

DP and I both loved the first one, but the second one fell a bit flat, really - was it really all leading up to the "large PG for Mum but forgot to order food for the kids" punchline? It's as if the series was based on one good idea for a gag and, I fear, the rest will be mere padding.
