An idea to stop place marking

Placemarking can be very annoying, especially when a thread is filling up fast as people wait for the OP to return. However I am very guilty of it.

This got me to thinking about why I do it. And my reason is that I only every really look at my TIO feed and I don't really bother with the watching one. Now of course I could just sort my lazy arse out and actually click on the watching button, but I forget. Also, I like the deletion message if there is one, rather than a thread simply vanishing.

So I thought, why not have watching threads mixed in with the TIO. So a TIO feed would be a mixture of the two and work in the same way. It would look the same but perhaps you could have 'Watching' next to the title so you know you haven't actually posted on it.

Yes I know that I should change the way I use MN rather than expecting MN to change to suit me but I know I'm not the only person to do this.
It reminds me of desire lines that you see in the park; paths worn where people actually chose to walk rather than where the path is meant to be. Place marking is simply a desire line of how to use MN.

If I click my "watching" tab it shows me threads I'm on and threads I'm watching. Isn't that what you are saying you want OP?

I guess it is really.

Oh my goodness! Thank you! How did I not know about this? I spend ages reading things that I've already read, trying to find my last spot.

If you use the mobile version you can see deletion messages in your browser history even if you haven't watched or posted on them. Watch thread is in the blue buttons at the bottom of the screen so no need to scroll back up to add to the Watched list.

Wondermoomin. I suspect you're correct that the App and the desktop site don't sync. But to get the bookmarks working on your laptop go to the circle with the downward facing arrow, which is just to the right of the word Talk up there ^. Click on the circle and you'll get a small drop-down menu, click on customise and you'll get this page www.mumsnet.com/Talk?call=Preferences. Scroll down a bit to 'Display Bookmark Links', check that box and save changes. And then to bookmark on a thread, hover your cursor at the bottom right corner of that post and a little blue box with 'bookmark' (or something like that) appears - click on that and it tells you when it's Saved.
