MN overhaul

Is it just me, or does anyone else use other forums that seem more user friendly?

I spent quite a bit of time on StudentRoom when DC were applying for Uni and have also spent a lot of time on British Expats. Both enable editing of your post (helpful with typos or predictive text errors) and both allow quoting of previous posts.

Both these are fundamental functions on a forum. I bloody hate having to bold a previous user when commenting on a thread, it just doesn't flow.

Any chance of any upgrade?

I never bold people.

TheMortificadosDragon · 21/12/2016 22:17

I can see that quoting could be useful though. Sometimes on a thread a poster will say "I agree with x" but to find what x said that they agree with you have to look back through the thread and hope that you spot x's post. I always give up.

Its not exactly hard to copy the relevant bit, then asterisk, paste, asterisk

Hey we could get some tickers as well while we are at it? 😂

TheMortificadosDragon · 21/12/2016 22:42

Sparklingbrook · 21/12/2016 23:14

I like it just the way it is TBH. Because it's not the same as other forums.

RJnomore1 · 21/12/2016 23:44

Me too sparkles.

I fear the target demographic is changing though.

ilovesooty · 21/12/2016 23:51

Please leave it alone. I've seen what overhauls have done to other forums. It's fine as it is

DeckTheHallsWithLimbsOfZombie · 21/12/2016 23:59

No thank you and No thank you.

Mandatorymongoose · 22/12/2016 00:02

I just want an edit button emoji. To use on these threads. Down with Bear more [editbutton]

WaitrosePigeon · 22/12/2016 16:25

No thanks, I like it just the way it is.

CoteDAzur · 25/12/2016 10:57

OP - "I bloody hate having to bold a previous user when commenting on a thread"

What makes you think you have to? I have never ever bolded anyone's name in the many years I've been on MN. Just don't. Earth will keep spinning and threads will keep running.

As for quoting: Do you see what I did above? You can do the same. Copy and paste. You don't need a fancy button for it.

ForeverPiesofMince · 25/12/2016 11:23

I like MN just as it is. I find it hard to follow threads on Money Saving Expert, Digital Spy, the Student Room and the like, and I don't actually like the quote function. It just takes up space.

yeOldeTrout · 25/12/2016 17:30

the thing i most dislike on other forums is the "join date" or "member since" date being displayed. This info is never helpful & I always confuse it for the actual date the post was made. I spend ages trying to find the actual time/date someone posted.

I could use an edit button. I preview like 6 times & still make typos I don't see until I hit real post msg button.
