How does this gel with your thread on your moderation policy MNHQ??

Apologies in advance for a thread about two threads - I don't want to derail either thread but I'm genuinely curious as to how you've reconciled your stance on moderation with your response to squishysquirmy's poem about Donald Trump?

On your Moderation policy thread Justine says:

"This doesn't mean that it's a complete free for all. Of course we do and will continue to remove posts that break our rules – for instance personal attacks and those that break the law or promote hate."

Then on Squishysquirmy's Help-What-rhymes-with-cuntweasel? thread you've promoted the thread to classics because it contains a 77 line, very clever, very amusing, poem about Donald Trump, which is

-clearly a personal attack
-encouraging others to ridicule him

I'm absolutely no fan, I have to say, but what was the thinking here?? How does this get promoted to classics when other less offensive posts have been deleted recently?

I do think there needs to be some level of consistency if you want people to accept that you are making rational decisions about what you delete.

lougle, I agree with the points you are making. I thought the 'poem' was vile and should have been deleted.

Hitler has only got one ball
The other is in the Albert Hall
His mother,
The dirty bugger
Cut it off when he was small
Hitler has only got one ball
Hess has got no balls at all
Himmler had something similar
But poor old Goebbals
Had no balls at all

The difference being we were at war when those were written. Just a small point...

I did not think the poem was clever , nor was it satire.

Last I checked America was at war- currently bombing 7 different countries. Not under Trump of course but they are "at war"

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 27/11/2016 14:46

How disingenuous. Do you really think anything today is comparable with the situation the UK faced when those lines were written?

Or if you do presumably you would have no issue with similar lines being written about Obama?

YoungPretenderMortificado · 27/11/2016 15:07

Yes it probably does if you live in one of the SEVEN countries that America is bombing. Confused

You were the one who justified the above "poem" because of war not me don't turn your fucking 'rationale' around on me.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 27/11/2016 15:20

You really don't understand the difference between a mocking poem written by British soldiers in the darkest hour that country faced to lift their morale and the poem being discussed in this thread?

The UK wartime one was referred to as some sort of comparison and justification for the OP's post.

I think it is a ridiculous comparison , you don't. The rationale is yours, not mine. If the comparison was legitimate then by extension one should be happy to see similar lines about Obama.

YoungPretenderMortificado · 27/11/2016 15:40

I think it is a ridiculous comparison , you don't.

Eh?

There was a bold fail. I didn't realise that you were quoting someone. I thought you introduced the Hitlers balls poem to the thread.

I am bowing out of this as I am confused and don't have time to read the whole thread to make sense.

War seems irrelevant to the Trump poem but I don't know what's been said.

BeyondTheHarpy · 27/11/2016 15:41

Come on Lass, clearly we missed that the poems author is a Syrian in Syria! Hmm

YoungPretenderMortificado · 27/11/2016 15:42
Confused
LassWiTheDelicateAir · 27/11/2016 15:44

The Hitler poem was introduced by poster Mr Tumbles to justify mocking world leaders. It is a ridiculous comparison.

Sorry if the bold fail failed to make that clear.

GinAndTunic · 27/11/2016 19:18

Last I checked America was at war-

Good grief. Last I checked, Obama was still president has been for eight years now.

And, no. America is not "at war". To be at war with a country, Congress has to declare an act of war and it hasn't done so.

YoungPretenderMortificado · 27/11/2016 19:52

Oh sorry, my bad. Of course bombing 7 countries doesn't mean America is at war because America hasn't been attacked, have they? Funny that.

It's just military operations of course.

I'm sure the semantics are of the utmost importance when you are killed or maimed from a bomb blast.

Thanks though. Really appreciate that correction. I wouldn't want to be wrong especially when it's totally irrelevant to the thread.
