How about a campaign where the users get MNHQ staff to take diversity training?

MNHQ themselves have displayed ignorance (at best) over the last few months and prejudice / discrimination at worst when dealing with certain situations.
For example Justine, the sites owner herself over the last few days has made some very ignorant and damaging comments about diabetes.
We have seen the same with many times with Racism too as well as low level disablism.

Unless you are white, middle class and able bodied HQ isn't a nice place to be.

Post here if you would like this to take place. HQ need training and they need it fast.

Do people mean diversity training? Do they mean training to develop knowledge of disabilities? Do they mean training to be able to spot disablist language?

Isn't it generally covering the rights of inclusion, the fact that the Equality Act isn't about treating everyone the same, but providing support to get everyone to the same level. One person might need tailored support and more time on one area while others do not... some might need more help and understanding while others may not... impulsiveness is a big issue and so on.... And recognising when someone may need support but be unable to ask for it.

To be honest, MNHQ on an individual level with individual people do work very well and case by case I actually think they cover this.

BUT i also agree as a whole there is a problem, a lot of the 'nit picking' (for want of a better term) at little things wouldn't happen if big things were tackled head on. "Day watch" is very good as it would allow posts to be hidden before taking up an entire thread.

The night watch, when they are on, do a fantastic job.

So we are lying when we say we've reported then?

Sorry Dixie that wasn't a dig at you. Some users assume the site is moderated and remove posts without them having to be reported.

MNHQs only obligation is to ensure the site stays within the law. If it is not, I don't think a thread is the right way to approach it. If it is, but users are offended by content that they report, then MNHQ have decided that it was not offensive to the majority of users/ not in the sites interests to be removed.

And that is their business decision into make.

Haha thanks WP. Not sure about calm and collected though.

I tend to shout 'cunt' at the screen while typing politely Grin

WorraLiberty · 05/11/2016 20:34

I meant in general btw, not anyone in particular and not on this thread Blush

WatcherOfTheNight · 05/11/2016 21:06

I think a fair few of us shout cunt at our screens Worra Wink

I think Maryz stays on Craicnet (sp?) now..

MNHQ are a fairly diverse bunch of people, each of us with our own experiences but I would politely push back on the idea that there is no meaningful disability awareness at MNHQ. On the community team alone, we have a member of staff who is deaf, and member of staff who has a son with DS. We do try to be as compassionate and understanding as we can be to all.

As always, we do read and appreciate your feedback and we will have a discussion about the issues that this has raised and how we could have better managed the situation.

Apologies again for any upset caused.

Posted by RebeccaMumsnet in June on a thread called MNHQ - are they disabilist?

Breathtakingly rude indeed.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 05/11/2016 21:46

'You need to be sent on a course' has been fighting talk in most places I've worked (unless your boss says it in which case STFU and go on the course).

Also, what Worra and user1478350730 (FFS get a proper name!) said.

I don't identify people by their disability so am unable to help you with names.

Eh?

slenderisthenight · 05/11/2016 22:41

Just seen that my post was deleted. I wasn't aware that asking someone if they are an oracle was heinously rude! Genuinely baffled.

WorraLiberty · 05/11/2016 22:50

Blimey I'm baffled too.

It was a bit snotty but certainly not deletion worthy.

I'm so confused! What professional body would MN fall under jurisdiction of then? Genuinely am, I thought that this type of thing only applied to public services such as GTTC, HPC etc. having seen the level of guff and vitriol on sites like 4chan, reddit and tumblr, MNHQ quite switched on IMO at shutting down negative, discriminatory posts. (Although I am very aware many will not share my opinion!)

worral It just gives me the feeling that someone is watching my posts with their finger on the trigger, you know?!

Bejazzled · 05/11/2016 23:21

"Inadequately signposted satire"
😱🙄😂

AnyFucker · 05/11/2016 23:21

Tut fucking tut

We is stupid for not understanding your "satire" is that it ?

Whatever

WorraLiberty · 05/11/2016 23:22

Ahh yes and you'd be just grand if MNHQ refused to remove a disablist comment because they considered it "inadequately signposted satire."

Would you?
