All these bloody 'user443268643' names, I have a Cunning Plan.

They're SO annoying. And it's difficult to differentiate between them. Could we possibly make some sort of auto random word generating thing instead? Like the bot Captcha thingy that generates two random words to confirm you're not a bot. NerveLeaf or CatMacaron would be so much easier than all the user names.

Is there a bug making them all start 147 at the moment?

WouldHave · 24/11/2016 19:07

I assume numbers are allocated in order. Since it's such a long number, potentially there could be around a million 147s before it clicks up to 148.

TheExecutionerMortificado · 24/11/2016 19:11

But there weren't lots of user100, user 101, and there can't have been 47m signups!

M0stlyHet · 24/11/2016 19:22

As something of an afficionada of fanfiction, Lass, I am now imagining mumsnet filled with some of the truly awful elf-names that teenage girls in love with Orlando Bloom Legolas give themselves their characters in bad fanfiction. I think this could really be a runner Grin

RebootYourEngine · 24/11/2016 19:33

WouldHave i saw that thread. I got a bit confused and decided not to read it anymore.

user0 · 25/11/2016 01:08

Could be appending the user id but just a guess. Problem with the names probably down to the database used as others have pointed out. Anyone else curious what a mumsnet themed database of words would spit out? Grin

FlissMumsnet · 25/11/2016 19:53

Hi Everyone, sorry this is still so irritating for everyone Blush we'll make sure this gets bumped to tech

TheExecutionerMortificado · 25/11/2016 19:54

Pleeeeease do!

PacificDogwod · 25/11/2016 20:01

Oh, I am the only person who now wants to see some of the 'appalling' combinations?
'BananaGonorrhoea'? 'PaedophileBonanza'? 'TrumpsMistress'?

I mean, how bad can it have been??
It must have been pretty bad to be better than user263850405784025 or whatever Grin

Stratters, you are indeed a genius Wine

user1479988301 · 25/11/2016 20:55

BlushBlush off to name change!!

TheExecutionerQueenMortificado · 25/11/2016 20:59

lorelairoryemily · 25/11/2016 21:00

Done! No prizes for guessing what I'm watching!!

ZbZb · 26/11/2016 13:08

I don't get why it so irritating. I name change every day so surely I'm just as anonymous as any User234576543234 🤔

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 26/11/2016 14:04

ZbZb you are anonymous in that I have no idea who you are in real life but ZbZb is recognisable as a name on here.

User 147123456789 and User147123456798 are not.

AraielTelnareil · 26/11/2016 14:10

Mostlyhet and here I am in my Elvin robes.

M0stlyHet · 26/11/2016 14:26

Oh I love the new name. I feel you need to have your own story - who floats your boat? Legolas? Or are you an Aidan Turner enthusiast? Or shall I bump off Arwen so you can have Aragorn? Or un-bump-off Boromir? Or do you fancy yourself as more of the action heroine rather than the love interest, taking over from Frodo in order to drop the ring into Mt Doom yourself? In fanfic, any ending you want can be produced (grammar, spelling, plausibility and literary merit on the other hand are optional extras).

Oblomov16 · 26/11/2016 14:27

So awful. Hate them.

AraielTelnareil · 26/11/2016 15:10

I see myself as a Galadriel type Het

Megatherium · 04/01/2017 17:23

Is there any danger of this getting sorted this year?

TheNiffler · 22/01/2017 10:32

Bump.

But please sort out the sloooooow first, Tech

MiscellaneousAssortment · 24/01/2017 13:54

It's irritating for existing users but also, it gives new users a bad experience as everyone is suspicious of them and can't be arsed to interact with them as individuals.

Surely not how mumsnet want to treat their new users?

I think a good interim idea would be to change user1258689753 to newbie167646984.

And I know that's technically possible, as opposed to the usual excuses of oooh IT is so complicated it will take us soooo long typeof excuses not to do anything!

Megatherium · 13/02/2017 14:16

Hi Everyone, sorry this is still so irritating for everyone. We'll make sure this gets bumped to tech

That went well then, didn't it? We're coming up to 6 months since this thread started. Any chance of an update at the very least?

LornaMumsnet · 13/02/2017 15:46

Hello!

Tech are currently working on a project to improve the registration process (the new registration process will eliminate this username problem).

Sorry for the delay, please do hang in there!

Megatherium · 13/02/2017 16:15

Thanks. Any idea when it will be resolved?

LornaMumsnet · 13/02/2017 16:24

Hi Megatherium

We don't have a time-frame at the moment we're afraid, but the wheels are in motion!
