Mobile app and Fairy advert

marmiteloversunite · 02/08/2016 21:17

Is this the new advertising deal on the mobile app? A fairy advert at the end of each post. I am finding it intensely irritating sand keep clicking on it by mistake trying to refresh the thread.

OP posts:
cozietoesie · 03/08/2016 14:36

I'd guess that it shall. The app has to be funded - and if more and more people start to use it and drift from the main site......

I suspect that MNHQ are trying to find the right balance.

StuffandBother · 03/08/2016 14:36

I am going to actually switch FROM Fairy the advert is irritating me that much!

Footle · 03/08/2016 14:45

Stuff, I was thinking that too, but I think the alternatives to Fairy would be more even irritating than the ad.

Senac32 · 03/08/2016 15:36

The Fairy ad. is on Gransnet too, the one with the poor little baby dressed like Superman.
An easy way to blot out ads. is hold down Ctrl, at the same time moving the wheel on your mouse forward. Gives you huge writing but moves the ads out of the way.
Evidently you can get an ad. blocker but that's too technical for me.

KateSMumsnet · 03/08/2016 16:27

Hi everyone, thanks for all your feedback on the new ads. Cozietoesie has pretty much hit the nail on the head - we've always relied on ad revenue to keep the site running, and while the app is no different - we obviously don't want anything to hinder your Mumsnetting pleasure, so please do keep your thoughts coming.

A couple of you have mentioned seeing an ad at the bottom of every post, which definitely shouldn't be happening. If you're seeing this, could you try and grab a screenshot and post it on this thread so we can take a look? The only new addition is a large square ad at the end of every thread - but we're currently trialing the position of these, so your thoughts are really important, as we want to make this sponsorship work for everyone

KateSMumsnet · 03/08/2016 16:31

Oh, and we're really sorry about the typo Blush Rest assured we've been set lines, and have extra spellings to take home in our book bag.

peaceloveandtwirlywoos · 03/08/2016 18:36

I'm seeing the big square ad at the end of every thread, not post. But it's still bloody annoying. Just a wee banner would do the job. I think come winter I'm going to start thinking that baby looks a bit cold Confused

cozietoesie · 03/08/2016 19:32

There's an oddity that seems to have been introduced very very recently on the iOS app - it may coincide with the coming of the new advert. If you hit the 'Show older posts' link and travel back up the thread, when you come back down, the ad disappears, along with the bottom posts.

cozietoesie · 03/08/2016 19:33

I think ('think') it's the bottom two posts that go.

cozietoesie · 03/08/2016 20:10

Yes. It seems to be the bottom two posts plus advert that disappear - and you can't get them back unless you completely re-enter the thread.

cozietoesie · 03/08/2016 20:12

Sorry - and the slim horizontal banner 'adlet' goes as well.

twittwooery · 03/08/2016 22:48

Just the 3 fairy. Adverts plus one MN cookbook advert on this thread so it's like every 7-8 posts

cozietoesie · 03/08/2016 22:55

Ah. I've got a MN Book of Bedtime Stories. I'm not sure what that says about thee and me! Grin

Merd · 04/08/2016 07:31

I appreciate that I'm not MN's primary target audience and that this issue will affect such a teeny tiny number of people, so I'm not even sure why I'm posting.

But as someone with recurrent MC issues who first joined because of the TTC boards, it's really been quite jarring to see intensely cute baby photos at the end of every single thread across chat etc in the last few days. I'm beginning to flinch a bit at the sight of Fairy too! Every single thread repeatedly is a LOT.

I might just be being a bit sensitive of course as we're trying again and I feel anxious, but it does make me feel miserable every time (from a quick glance at least it's not on the MC boards but then I've been trying to avoid those for a while too).

So - like I said, not even sure why I'm writing this except to vent a bit - it's not like MN can help it, everyone has weird triggers and it is a parenting forum so baby pics make sense. I know it's just my problem to deal with ... but felt it might be worth feeding back in case anyone out there is listening and could make the next ad about something other than babies maybe.

Looking into Adblock now! Smile (And sorry for the long post!)

TimMumsnet · 05/08/2016 13:31

Hey guys, thanks for your feedback - we've fixed the typo in the splashscreen. It might take a while to update after you download the update, because your phone caches the old splashscreen in memory.

peaceloveandtwirlywoos · 05/08/2016 19:24

Hurray! My splash updated straight away.

darreldixonishot · 05/08/2016 21:09

Just coming to site stuff to moan about the fucking fairy advert! Keep clicking on it by accident & then can't find my way back! And it tells me to log in when I 'm already logged in!
Bloody annoying! Sorry!

Flisspaps · 06/08/2016 22:08

My feedback is that I don't like the ads.

I prefer the app to the mobile site because it was cleaner, and I'd never noticed any ads until a few days ago. Now I'm hitting a bloody Fairy app by accident every few minutes and it's really off putting.

I'd happily pay a small fee for an ad free version, if putting ads all over the app is the plan.

peaceloveandtwirlywoos · 07/08/2016 08:32

I'd pay for the app if they reinstated the bloody search function.
