Could we follow the lead of at least one of the official campaigns and suspend discussions of the referendum for 24 hours?

Hello everyone - what completely shocking, dreadful news.

We completely understand why you've suggested this, and why the official campaigns have suspended activities. But as some others have pointed out, it would be quite hard to enforce - discussions would inevitably pop up on other topics, which would undermine the suspension somewhat. We also think there's a difference between campaigning, which would certainly feel inappropriate in the circumstances, and discussion of the issues on Mumsnet, which we'd hope might lead to increased understanding.

We'll keep a close eye on threads in the referendum topic over the next few days, to try and ensure the debate adheres as closely as possible to the spirit in which, by all accounts, Jo Cox lived her life.
