MNHQ - are they disabilist?

Sixweekstowait · 09/06/2016 20:36

Having had a thread deleted with no communication with me until I asked ( but then I'm disabled and so invisible) , having read on the second class citizen thread of examples of disabilist language which HQ defend, I am beginning to think they are. I now think they were really really wrong to delete my thread and that they have NO IDEA about the everyday discrimination that people with disabilities face in even trying to travel to work, care even less and I would like to know how many of their staff are disabled?

What was your thread about?

I've always found MNHQ to be very inclusive, personally.

The thread turned into a bunfight because of the language you used and the point was lost in the surrounding furore.

I think MNHQ absolutely want to get it right.
Unfortunately there is a tidal wave of really shitty attitudes on here.
Some people really suck.
I think they get torn between 'well they might be an arsehole but its staying just this side of 'debate'

It's a pretty hard thing to navigate.

I don't think they were wrong to delete your thread. I don't think they deleted it because you are disabled, which would obvs be the case if it were a disabilist act.

Tno mn hq are not disablist, but i have found that they do not understand disability and how it affects people,
Things have improved over the years but look at the moment there are 2 horrid threads running , one full of some pretty vile posts, yettheyget to stand
You as adisabled person start one and its deleted, says a lot tbh
I saw youroriginal thread and could not see any thing disablist. About it.

I don't think it's standard to inform someone their thread has been deleted. You shouldn't take that personally.

They deleted a thread that if starter by an able bodied person about a disabled person would have been edited, not deleted.

Saying that, I'm surprised the thread was deleted rather than edited but I gather that I posted on it before it turned into a bunfight.

Are you saying that you feel that because they deleted your thread and you are disabled, that makes them disablist?

Report
Sixweekstowait · 09/06/2016 20:49

MNHQ could have changed the phrase - they could have contacted me, they could have thought what it was like to be trapped in my car by a disabilist cunt, they could explain why they allow disabilist language to stand elsewhere with no deletions - but no they delete a whole thread on an important issue because I think they haven't axcluevabout the realities of life for people with disabilities in our society and care even less

As a side issue, there are some absolute arseholes on here ATM .

They were much better at deleting for a while. Not just now. Have been called deranged and a poor parent and having my head up my arse without it being deleted. Although being called a twat and told to fuck right off was at least. Small mercies.

Bourdic I think they owe you an email of explanation as to why your thread was deleted (while others are left to stand).

It did turn into a really stupid bunfight.

There were posters determined to make you wrong, Bourdic. It was quite vile in places. In others the foaming at the mouth was ridiculous, posters stretching a point far beyond logic to find insult.

I popped on to report one poster to find one of those "oh dear, it really isn't Mumsnet" messages and came very close to contacting them to have a rant on your behalf.

But please, do remember, the squeaky wheel gets the grease... and the squeakiest wheels were probably those who fought hardest to find insult in your quite understandable ire.

Surely then MNHQ should have said to OP it was deleted because people were being vile to her then?

I posted their email - the main reason was my use of a particular phrase used in the context of my AIBU about people without disabilities using blue badge spaces and no one supports those of us who complain

OP, why would you think that MN is disabilist as an approach? What would be their/our benefit from that. It would reduce the MN population.

I really don't think HQ are disablist, no.

Threads that have descended into bun fights (where the mods can't keep up with all the deletions that would be necessary) are deleted all the time. Ops of the threads do not receive an explanation.

op have you emailed and asked Mnhq why your thread was deleted?

Quite frankly Olivia I don't understand what that means - could you elucidate but in words of one syllable because I have a disability you know

Bourdic - you've just lost a fair few potential 'supporters' there. if I may say.
