MNHQ - are they disabilist?

Sixweekstowait · 09/06/2016 20:36

Having had a thread deleted with no communication with me until I asked ( but then I'm disabled and so invisible) , having read on the second class citizen thread of examples of disabilist language which HQ defend, I am beginning to think they are. I now think they were really really wrong to delete my thread and that they have NO IDEA about the everyday discrimination that people with disabilities face in even trying to travel to work, care even less and I would like to know how many of their staff are disabled?

Disabled or otherwise, you are being ridiculous Bourdic

LittleMissBossyBoots · 09/06/2016 21:14

Bourdic - you've just lost a fair few potential 'supporters' there. if I may say.

Why? She's frustrated at being marginalised and being made to feel like she's invisible because she's disabled. She's started a thread challenging MNHQ about their lack of engagement with her and they have come onto the thread twice to comment and on both occasions have responded to posts by other posters, not her.

ThisPanCan · 09/06/2016 21:22

I think that because of a sneeringness in her post about being disabled. That's so poor. She would appear to be v well able in a debate but reduces it to something less worth while. One doesn't engage people as a rhetoritician by being sneery to your audience.

OurBlanche · 09/06/2016 21:31

That's what started the last bunfight, PanCan.

Bourdic was frustrated, sarcastic, caustic and was absolutely flamed for it.

You may say That is so poor and think you mean well. But Bourdic is absolutely fucking furious at years worth of issues compounded by a thread full of people turning the issue from her being pissed off with being marginalised because she is disabled to berating her for daring to be, not only disabled, but rude, caustic, sneery and otherwise human, angry and on here to vent.

I doubt she will read your admonition in anything other than a patronising light. And I, for one, quite agree with her.

ThisPanCan · 09/06/2016 21:35

I also say that as a person with immediate family/v close friendship 'families' members over decades who are disabled i.e. severely autistic, Downs, and a wheel chair user. (3 different children and adults).
So losing a potentially empathic platform is a concern.

LittleMissBossyBoots · 09/06/2016 21:35

I do to OurBlanche

The deleted thread was disgraceful full of faux outrage and offense to divert attention away from the actual issue.

ThisPanCan · 09/06/2016 21:41

OB - I didn't say it to appear to 'mean well' at all. If Bourdic wishes to interpret anything I type in any particular way then that's not my issue.

Are MN disablists? I have a bit of a radar on that, and I don't agree they are.

Pagwatch · 09/06/2016 21:42

I think there is a suggestion that the OP needs to be nice in order to get heard,

That worried me rather.

She could be a monstrous twat but if her issue is right then it's right.

Let's not suggest she needs to smile and ask nicely because that gets in to very uncomfortable territory doesn't it?

OurBlanche · 09/06/2016 21:47

PanCan... I didn't post that in order to get more information about you. I posted it to try to explain why Bourdic posts in the way she does.

She didn't get much empathy on the last thread and part of your previous post sounded very much like the posts that so exasperated her before.

She is angry. Very angry. My best advice is not to try to placate her or to explain why her anger irritates or upsets you. Don't try to explain you understand as you know people, have close relatives who are disabled. YOU ARE NOT, she is and she has been pissed of beyond her current ability to cope with it at all pleasantly!

Just accept it. She is one righteously pissed off disabled woman who has, currently, ceased to give a fuck who she offends!

LittleMissBossyBoots · 09/06/2016 21:48

That's what I was thinking Pag but I couldn't get it right in my head so deleted by bungled attempt at saying it.

ThisPanCan · 09/06/2016 21:48

Not really Pag - For me at least I'd suggested being sneery doesn't help. That's just a global lesson re communication and changing hearts and minds, n'est-ce-pas?

Pagwatch · 09/06/2016 21:49

I'm probably attuned because I'm currently trying to teach my 13 year old DD that it's not her job to make every else feel fabulous.

Pagwatch · 09/06/2016 21:51

I don't think she gives a fuck about hearts and minds.
I'm not sure why she has to TBH.

If she's angry, she's angry.
You can disagree with her but I think telling her to be nice and people might treat her differently is really patronising.
If I were angry I'd tell you to fuck off. I'm not sure why she has a responsibility to behave better than I would?

Pagwatch · 09/06/2016 21:53

(Having said that I'd be lovely to Olivia because she's fabulous but that rather pisses on my point)?

Samcro · 09/06/2016 21:56

So theop hs toplaynice to keep people hppy.
So why the fuck are there so many nasty threads on mn about disability
There are 2 running now, left to stand, both have some relly nasty posts, yet the threads areleft
Most of the vile post are left.
But get one angry disabled person start a thread and they get told touse a better tone
This cant be right

ThisPanCan · 09/06/2016 22:02

No she probs doesn't give a care who she 'offends'. And why she should she right now. FWIW I don't care who she offends. But that isn't really the point though.
The OP was about whether MN are disabilist. And we have differing opinions about that.

Pagwatch · 09/06/2016 22:03

No . I agree. It isn't the point.
So critiquing her manner probably wasn't helpful.

OurBlanche · 09/06/2016 22:04

Quite right, PanCan. So why focus on it?

ThisPanCan · 09/06/2016 22:07

Hmmmmm.....nope, can't agree Pag. But we aren't going to agree here no matter how much we type, I suspect.

Pagwatch · 09/06/2016 22:08

I know. It's probably my tone. I can be uppity.

ThisPanCan · 09/06/2016 22:09

Probably.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 09/06/2016 22:11

FwIW I don't think they are disablist. Bit would love to see them/you on it much more and more quickly when posters are.

Bourdic is angry Pan. That is not "poor". She is angry and rightfully so.

weirdsister · 09/06/2016 22:16

I read (and posted on) the start of Bourdic's thread and then had to go to work, but it had already descended into a few posters telling her to fuck off at that stage.

I can understand why Bourdic is cross, as MN could have altered her post rather than delete the thread, but I don't know how bad the thread was by the time it was taken down.
