Why is search function in MN talk so useless ?

I am at a loss to explain how MN can expect us to use the advanced or basic search function . This has been like this for years and it is so inadequate and downright ineffectual I am amazed that MN Towers believe it is acceptable .
Considering the revenue stream generated from the advertising carried on Mumsnet nowadays that we have been forced to accept over the last 5 years shouldnt we be demanding more from Mumsnet ?

IonaMumsnet,

Just as Dustwhatdust said, doing a general search brings up hundreds of results from across the talk boards in no particular date order, and with similar spellings thrown in, e.g. if you were to search for 'sandwich fillings' it would bring up all the results for 'sandwich fillings' 'sandwich' 'fillings' (which might include tooth fillings etc), and any MN user names that are similar e.g. Sandwichfilling113, and all those results would be muddled up in no date order. So the thread you wanted, for example you spotted a recent thread on sandwich fillings and want to find it again, will be buried under hundreds of irrelevant results.

There needs to be additional search functions that you can apply once you've done a basic search e.g. 'arrange by newest thread first' 'search user names /threads in chat etc only'. There's currently no way of narrowing the search down or applying filters.

The advance search function is not any better.

Hope that helps.
