Thanks for flagging

ColetteTech · 01/12/2015 22:17

Hi all, could you let us know if this is still happening in 20 mins? We've put some blocks in place which should stop this occurring.
Apologies for this, redirects are notoriously difficult to track down but we take this very seriously.

ColetteTech · 02/12/2015 10:22

Hi all, we just wanted to explain where this is coming from, Mumsnet runs ads from 3rd parties (most publisher/content websites do this) and despite having very tight blocks in place, these redirect ads sometimes slip through the net.

We turned off our main supplier last night which we hoped would have done the trick but looks like it's still happening, apologies for that. We'll keep systematically turning these off to find the culprit.

Could you let us know if this is still happening? If so, could you let us know if you're using Android/iPhone/other when you post, it will really help us to narrow down the problem.

ColetteTech · 02/12/2015 13:49

Ok, so apart from swashbucklecheer's report just now, this seems to have quietened down since this morning, is that right?

Mumsnet is not being targeted specifically, this will also be happening on other forums/news sites etc too, we all use similar technology.

If this happens again, we would recommend coming out of the browser app (by tapping a home button) and then "force" closing the browser app, iOS and android instructions here. This will close any other browser windows you have open but will allow you to re-open the browser app again and continue browsing normally.

ColetteTech · 02/12/2015 18:58

Ok, so it's still happening then Hmm
We'll keep working on it, thanks all.

@SilverShins

I was just reading the 'in tears' thread and this appeared

Thanks Silver, we'll start looking for this one too.

@AlisonWunderland

Just got redirected to a large penis and some buttocks. And not in a good way...

Seriously MN, not acceptable.
Using a hudl2 on Chrome

What really worried me is that when I tried to back click off the site, I got a series of very official loooking pop ups telling me that i was guilty of looking at extreeme pornography sites featuring paedophilia, necrophilia and beastiality in contravention of statute blah blah balh.
These asked me to confirm reload whatever that is, which i didn't fancy doing and it wouldn't let me leave that pop up or access any other Chrome pages

Used home button.
Went to apps.
Disabled chrome, cleared data and cache .
When I reopend Chrome is seemed all clear.
Checked browsing history was clear.

Still worried that I may get a bit policeman appearing accusing me of being complicit in the abuse of some poor donkey.

This is the first time I have been redireced to such a site , despite spending far too much time online, mosting on fairly mainstream safe sites.
Makes me think that MN site is rather leaky compared to others.

Soory no screen shots to help

Hi Alison, thanks for flagging this. I know it's not much help at this stage but it sounds like you did exactly the right thing.

@NeededANameChangeAnyway

Just happened to me. Was on the sponsored post about decorating your home for Christmas. Using Android phonewith explorer (not chrome). Pretty graphic and when I hit the back button I just got further and further into porn hell.

Hi Needed, was it this one?
www.mumsnet.com/Talk/sponsored_discussions/2517293-Create-your-own-Christmas-Decoration-Moodboard-and-share-with-Homebase-for-a-chance-to-win-a-1-000-Homebase-Voucher

ColetteTech · 03/12/2015 16:18

No worries, Needed.

We made some changes on the site earlier and I wanted to check if the redirects are still happening? We've been scanning the site ourselves and haven't seen the redirect this afternoon but it's very difficult to emulate everyone's set-ups, so that's why your reports are so important.

Thanks in advance.

ColetteTech · 03/12/2015 23:12

Thanks all, these reports are really helpful. We realise this is very frustrating so thanks for your patience so far, it's very frustrating for us too.
We have very few ads running on mobile and tablet now as we have been systematically turning these off since this was first reported, you'll mainly just see ads promoting internal mumsnet features/products. Consequently, we'd expect the redirects to no longer be happening. Is this the case?
