If email addresses haven't been published should I still be worried?

My username, password and IP address is on the list.

I don't use the same username anywhere. My password is different on every website however I use similar passwords and someone with a brain probably could work out what my passwords for other sites were. But a computer programme wouldn't. But if they don't know my email address or username for another site does it matter?

I think people who have had their details published are people who logged in last week. My phone logged me out but my iPad didn't which I thought was odd. So I did log in last week on my phone.

They've had the passwords for God knows how long, and they could have written a program to do the logging for them.

Have any of you successfully changed you email addresses? I'm getting the message "your changes have been saved" but the old email address is still there???

MeetMeInTheMorning · 19/08/2015 10:38

"They do know your email address because all they needed to do was log in as you and read it from your account details."

highly unlikely that they did log in as everyone though!

noblegiraffe · 19/08/2015 10:40

Meet, they could write a program to log in as everyone.

I'm not getting spam on my email so far and the lists will likely be widespread. (They just represent money and they do exist.) Change passwords and keep an eye on things - there's not a lot more you can do with any internet system.

I'm not on the list (it is linked on twitter).

My MN account is linked to a spare email account, not my main one. No sign of hacking on it but I've set up second sign-in protection on it. This is also on my main email and does seem to stop hacking in.

my MN password is not one I use elsewhere and I haven't filled in profile data.

have I forgotten anything?

I'm not very techy at all, but for sure know problems were happening on and before 7 August because I emailed mnhq when I was repeated logged out, asked to reset password, still couldn't log in then had cock pictures pop up. I'm not sure what my point is but they seemed totally unaware or unsure of what to do to solve my issues. Because I tried unsuccessfully to reset password or log in for 2 days, I'm unsure if "the list" is infact full and complete reflection of all people affected.

Chippednailvarnish · 19/08/2015 11:29

I'm clearly thick, but how do I check the list?

fancyanotherfez · 19/08/2015 11:41

I was wonderin the same thing. I Was able to change my password and I thought that was all I had to do. I log in with my username but couldn't log in, so got a link sent to my email address and changed it that way. Now I'm wondering if that was a mistake.

"still couldn't log in then had cock pictures pop up" ... Yes... I remember something very odd - I had an escort page pop up and then disappear...

Something on 12th August, late at night and it was for 'Viva Street' an escorts site.

SnowBells · 19/08/2015 13:37

Where was this published? Apparently, I was on the list, but don't even know where?!?

SnowBells · 19/08/2015 13:42

God. I found it. Darn those hackers!!!
