Scenic ad doing my head in

bakedpotato · 23/11/2006 10:36

it's like something out of Terminator

I resent the way it spreads over the screen, I keep clicking to close it, and it shrinks momentarily, and then whump it spills back out again

Can it be restrained somehow

I hate it too. Exceedingly annoying.

carriemumsnet · 23/11/2006 17:35

Hi there

As I understood it it's supposed to spring out once per user per day, but after that you'd have to click on it to make it spread. Are you getting more than that?

LIZS · 23/11/2006 17:44

I think that if I log in once but then go away ( at the thought)and have to log back in later the same day it does it again . Can't be 100% certain though.

SenoraPostrophe · 23/11/2006 17:48

what scenic ad? I was wondering why I hadn't seen any ads lately. IE must be filtering it for me.

LIZS · 23/11/2006 17:49

It's one of the skinny ones on the side which creeps over the text and you have to close.

NotAnOtter · 23/11/2006 17:49

i said this the other day - its awful

SenoraPostrophe · 23/11/2006 17:51

where that big blank box is? it's great.

bakedpotato · 23/11/2006 22:31

I must have clicked the 'close' box about five times but it just stayed there.
Then I logged off. When I came back it was gone. It hasn't reappeared today.

I bloody hate it too, I will never buy a scenic now!!

suzywong · 24/11/2006 00:08

I don't get to see any ads, popping or otherwise

Is this a blessing in disguise or am I deprived?

mamama · 24/11/2006 03:10

Aaargh. I'm wondering if I have different ads to those in the UK, but the University of Phoenix one is driving me nuts - like the OP, it drops down every 2 seconds. I am hating these new ads with a passion

bakedpotato · 24/11/2006 09:16

it's baaaack
I clicked 'close' endless times, it is still springing out

I'm glad it's not just me!!! I click close then back it comes, over the top of the text, over and over again. If it doesn't go away I'm going to have to stop using the site because I can't it.

MarsLady · 27/11/2006 17:43

I don't like it either! Blimming annoying in the enth degree!

NotAnOtter · 27/11/2006 17:52

i wish it would go

SaintGeorge · 27/11/2006 17:52

Move your scroll bar to the other side to prevent accidently opening the ad.

These ads pay a lot of money to MN compared to the static ones.

I would rather put up with them than pay subscriptions or lose MN completely.

MarsLady · 27/11/2006 18:27

StG.... you remember that I'm a technophobe right???????

Move the what? Where?

SaintGeorge · 27/11/2006 18:48

You weren't supposed to ask

I have no idea other than downloading a bit of software. Just saw it suggested on another thread.

I have ad blocking so don't need it, plus I rarely use the scroll bar (ahem, that would be the blue bar at the right to help you go up/down the page). I use the cursor keys instead (just for you, that would be the keys with arrows on).

MarsLady · 27/11/2006 22:12

It's okay. I've blocked the ad. I forgot that I could do that on a site by site basis! Yeah!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Once again StG you've saved me!

SlightlyMadSanta · 28/11/2006 21:54

For AOL users. I have just worked out how to block the scenic one:

Anyone using AOL go to the blocking pop-ups menu at teh bottom of the window. Select 'block animated media from MN' Viola.
