I realised (after posting on here) that I have not so much as touched a pernod in almost 20 years - I don't know how anyone can drink the stuff now!

Saw a feature in the Times the other day comparing fashion pics from the 80s and today - so it does look like it is all coming round again.

diNOLOOKINGOVERYOURSHOULDERsau · 18/10/2006 22:13

Oh, me me, gold eye-shadow and green eyeliner, that was me in me prime! Very early 80s! Copied from the fair-haired girl on the cover of Dare (Human League).

edam · 18/10/2006 22:22

I knew all the words to Prince Charming and Stand and Deliver (and all works by Adam and the Ants, tbh). [blushj

Wore my pedal pushers with pride later moving on to batwing jumpers. Oh, did I think I looked good!

Anyone remember putting hair gel in before you went to sleep to create that 'just got out of bed/electrocuted myself' look?

Heathcliffscathy · 18/10/2006 22:25

i don't know if anyone has got in there before me but i have two phrases for you:

iron lady

twilight teaser.

i think knowing what they are and indeed having owned them should also be entry requirements.

ridicule is nothing to be scared of.

MrsApron · 18/10/2006 22:27

odd fluorescent socks.
Tucca boots with ankle warmers.
a lust for pineapple clothing
pepe jeans with ankle zips
electric blue mascara with bright pink eyeshadow
shockwaves hairgel and hairspray - rock hard up bit at front of long hair.
diamond blush
electric blue glittery snood with matching earmuffs
brat pack movies
frankie t shirts
batwing jumpers in a big open knit - used to regularly get caught on door handles with accompanying snorts from my dad
leggings without full bum covering clothing - where is your skirt (dad again)
skipants (horrors) in fuschia pink with matching stilettos(elastic on the outside shudder) with a mans type shirt over them with an elastic belt.
(goes and lies down)

makemineadouble · 18/10/2006 22:43

Soph "Prince charming is nothing to be scared of"?

how bout (blushes at thought of buying this ) whispers....coo coo I just want you...?

makemineadouble · 18/10/2006 22:46

Mrsapron pink eyeshadow and blue liner!!!!!!!!!!!! (hands up)

Hair brushed over one shoulder and ankle boots!

EmmyLou · 18/10/2006 22:47

wagglefullmonndancer - only one pigtail? My bf had two.

foxinsocks · 18/10/2006 22:50

I had a blue eye liner although I was very much in a black phase so had black eyeshadow, black eyeliner and very dark lippie. I also had a really tatty black cardigan that I lived in.

I also did that ridiculous sort of back brushing (sort of up and down with a comb) with my hair to make it stand up

EmmyLou · 18/10/2006 22:55

foxinsocks - its backcombing which is why you do it with a comb!

Spent more time on me hair then than i do now hiding from the DDs in the downstairs loo with a book.

EmmyLou · 18/10/2006 22:56

Look! I even got some spikey bits in backcombing.

foxinsocks · 18/10/2006 22:57

lol - knew it had 'back' in it, couldn't remember the correct term (can you tell I'm not terribly stylish?)

scatterbrain · 18/10/2006 22:59

I had a funny quiffy thing in my fringe - back combed and hairsprayed within an inch of it's life !

Lots of black and cerise clothes, big baggy shirts, big belts, leggings, skipants, skin tight jeans with white tape down the side, rara skirts, mini kilts with woolly tights, big woolly jumpers. Fab - I loved it all !

EmmyLou · 18/10/2006 23:02

Sactterbrain you sound like everything my dd1 (11) wants to be. Black, pink, purple and stripes are apparently called 'punk' by current 11yr old girls.

Ahh, if only they knew. Must dig out old family snaps of her uncle.

Heathcliffscathy · 18/10/2006 23:03

i had black and red eyeshadow at one point.

ffs

DastardlyDevilishDior · 19/10/2006 09:40

SEA - Iron Lady and Copper Knockers were my fave. Miss Selfridge lipsticks!

Heathcliffscathy · 19/10/2006 09:43

miss selfridge was the place to get your (garish) make up.

that's where it was suggested to me (on a little make up post card) that black and red eyeshadow was a good idea.

NOMurDErousPLUME · 19/10/2006 09:49

I thought you meant old buggers in the MN sense, not in RL sense.

[NDP strolls of whistling with her pert norks and tattoo]

BTW - I know what a snood is and all about the Prince Charming video....

LittleWonder · 19/10/2006 10:11

Spangles - the sweets, what happened to those?

Those huge t-shirt dresses, tied in a knot to one side over electric blue footless jobs.

Kenny Everett on Capital Ray- di- ohhhhhhh

oh, spangles.

bundle · 19/10/2006 10:13

I had red eyeshadow, i'm sure it was from miss selfridge's

Clarinet60 · 19/10/2006 13:41

The 80's were hideous, apart from Fade to Grey and Echo Beach (which may have been the 70's.....)

Oh Hell, I think I'm in.

BudaBeast · 19/10/2006 13:57

I'm in too - did/wore most of the items listed below - except Doc Martins. My Mum organised a photographer to come and take a photo of me and my younger sisters when I was 16 and it is still on display and I am wearing:

Black and red cowboy boots
red legwarmers
skin tight jeans
White frilly blouse
Have permed hair
wearing lots of turquoise eyeliner and probably heather shimmer lipstick!

Mortifying!

HauntedsandCastle · 19/10/2006 14:00

another oldie here.....

nolastar · 19/10/2006 14:56

THE film of the decade..it still gives me goosebumps...
...They only met once, but it changed their lives forever...
Any guesses?

scatterbrain · 19/10/2006 15:23

Brief Encounter ???

But that wasn't the eighties was it ?
