MNHQ. Can we please start insisting that the use of 'child pornography' is not accurate and insist on 'images of child abuse'?

I think a step in the direction of dealing with this shit is at least to call it what it is. It's terribly minimising to suggest it is a category of porn when actually the images are crime scene photos.

I know people don't use 'child porn' here to minimise but it has that effect nonetheless.

I agree. Child porn is a horrendous term and doesn't reflect the victims only the end 'user'.

There was a petition a while back to ask the newspapers not to use the term, but they still do. It downplays the abuse that these children suffer, which is disgraceful. They are children and can't consent to being used this way and they are images of abuse, not consensual sex. Would images of an adult being raped be called adult porn? I don't think so.

I opt for child sex abuse - all child abuse is horrific, but sexual violence against children has a whole added dimension of Wrongness IMO.

I opt for the phrase 'child sex abuse' - I am NOT in favour of it

Its also becoming noticeable that any threads relating to this topic immediately becomes about the term used rather than the topic. Perhaps if mnhq had a phrase they ould insert into threads confirming the appropriate term and perhaps amending thread titles it would allow the threads to stay on topic iyswim
