The ZOMBIE threads are coming to get us......

MNHQ. Please can the ZOMBIE Thread Warning stay on zombie threads permanently. I keep getting caught out by zombie threads that have been resurrected by other posters. There are loads of them at the moment. Sad

I put a lot of thought into some of my posts and it's frustrating when I realise that the OP has long gone. Confused

I understand that sometimes there is a good reason for zombie threads to be resurrected but having the warning permanently on the thread won't prevent this. Thank you Smile

They are called Zombie Threads everywhere else on the internet so probably best not to reinvent the wheel....? Confused

KateSMumsnet · 13/08/2014 11:46

@UselessNess

MNHQ Do you have these warnings on the bereavement threads? Confused You would have to call them something else if you did. Old Threads?

We actually don't have the warnings for threads in the bereavement or miscarriage/pregnancy loss topics, precisely because it so tricky to word a warning sensitively.

Will check what's happening with the warning Smile

UselessNess · 13/08/2014 13:05

Thanks KateMumsnet. Sorry, it was a bit silly of me to post that question without checking. Blush

(Ps I'm the OP with a namechange but don't tell anyone Grin )

Me again.

We've just had a chinwag, and we reckon a compromise might be to have the zombie warning stay there for 10 posts. The warning could then disappear after that, as arguably, after 10 posts a thread is alive again.

What do people think?

FlossyMoo · 13/08/2014 17:04

Sounds good but can you put a warning at the top too? I spend waste enough time on here as it is without reading tons of posts on a zombie thread before I realise it is a zombie thread Grin

*Disclaimer I grant you this is very much a first world problem Smile

UselessNess · 13/08/2014 18:42

We could try with ten posts and see what happens. Smile It sounds like it would be a good compromise especially if you could find a way to put the sticky warning at the top and bottom of the thread.

Thanks again for looking into this as it's bugged me for ages.

ChasedByBees · 13/08/2014 19:58

I think 20 would be better. By about 10 new posts , it's people going "no, zombie thread! Stop posting!" or, "so annoyed this is a zombie thread Angry "

There's usually about 3-5 of those.

WhereforeArtThou · 20/08/2014 17:49

Hi MNHQ Smile

Is there any update on this??

DefinitleySpeltWrong · 14/09/2014 22:19

Sorry to revive this not a zombie thread yet thread but is there any update. Did tech do their magic.

AmyMumsnet · 15/09/2014 17:04

Hi all,

We'll give the zombies a prod and see if they can hang around a bit longer on the threads.

DefinitleySpeltWrong · 15/09/2014 17:27

Thanks Amy. Smile

ExpiredUserName · 27/09/2014 12:06

'Tis me again with a name change. I have just seen that the zombie thread warning is still dissipearing after a couple of posts. SEE HERE. (Luckily, someone noticed and put up a warning)

ExpiredUserName · 27/09/2014 16:42

How about posts on a thread that's reached zombiedom being a different colour? So no warning but if it's . .. erm...yellow? tries to think of a good zombie colour then it's a zombie. Any new posts would be non-zombie coloured so it'd be easy to see new contributions and if it's worth reading?

IamtheZombie · 28/09/2014 22:12

Zombie is fortunate. Most colours suit her. Grin

TooMuchCantBreath · 28/09/2014 23:40

you're very lucky, I could never pull off yellow Grin
