Are MN going to fix the android app?

I'm wondering if MN are working o fixing the issue with the android app that has been raised be others but never seems to get any response. The issue is the sponsored discussions continually building up in the active list with the only way of reducing them being that you have to log out then in again. Annoying enough in itself but then when I do log back in even though my 'reading direction' still says it's like a book it actually isn't and the only way to solve it is to flip direction then flip it back again. There must be a way of only having the usual 4 or 5 sponsored discussions as it is on the desktop site so please could it be fixed if you're not already in the process of doing so? I know it's not a major issue but it is increasingly annoying.

There's talk of a monthly subscription - not a one off payment...

FrankUnderwood · 23/04/2014 18:17

Come on HQ please. We've been asking for months.

Breezy1985 · 23/04/2014 18:22

I've been waiting months for it to be fixed Sad

Though I'd pay a small fee for an updated app, I would not be happy with a monthly subscription!

maudpringles · 23/04/2014 20:48

I would happily pay a one off fee ( in reason)for a better app.
My laptop has given up the ghost so my android phone is the only option.

Hello

We're really sorry that the app is so rubbish, and that we've made anyone feel ignored about it.

As Justine explained in her post linked to by Tweetinat, the existing apps were built by a third party and making changes to them - even for something apparently simple - is just prohibitively expensive. The whole thing has been a massive Learning Experience for us.

We do know it's horribly frustrating for those of you who prefer to use the app.

We're almost at testing stage with the new app and the improved mobile site and we hope to roll it out ASAP.

stealthsquiggle · 24/04/2014 10:07

Thanks, Rowan.

Are you able to clear up the question of whether the new app will be paid for, and if so whether it would be a one-off or a monthly charge?

RowanMumsnet · 24/04/2014 10:11

It's def going to be paid for (the mobile site will remain free). Not sure whether it's a one-off or a sub - will try to find out.

msrisotto · 24/04/2014 10:51

I will never pay for an app. Nevermind then.

stealthsquiggle · 24/04/2014 11:12

Hmmm. I would pay (not much) for a good app, but I would want to be able to try it out first (with ads, maybe?) as I don't, on principle, pay for apps sight unseen (much to DD's frustration).

A monthly subscription would be completely at odds with all other social media platforms and would, I imagine, get very low take up indeed.

MollyBdenum · 24/04/2014 11:35

I'll get back to grips with the mobile site then, I suppose, as there is no way I would pay a sub and the app would have to be significantly better than the current one before I would pay for it.

mumeeee · 24/04/2014 11:37

I'm another one who wouldn't be happy to pay for an app.

Youdontneedacriminallawyer · 24/04/2014 12:18

Nor me - I don't pay for any aps. I'd prefer to put up with the advertising - there's enough of it on the website anyway.

RowanMumsnet · 24/04/2014 12:28

Thanks for the feedback - we will take note, and of course completely understand if people won't want to pay. The aim is to make the mobile site utterly super, so the free option will still be very good.

HoldOnHoldOnSoldier · 24/04/2014 12:34

I certainly won't be paying for an app.

RowanMumsnet · 08/05/2014 10:40

Hello

Just to update you: turns out the decision about making the app free or paid-for hasn't been made yet; it's all yet to be decided via user testing. Apols for giving out nonsense information...
