AWimbaWay, they are alt codes. There's a list here: fsymbols.com/keyboard/windows/alt-codes/list/

You must use a numeric keypad - the number keys at the top of the keyboard won't work. If you don't have a separate numeric keypad you can read on that link how to activate an alternative numeric keypad on a laptop.

You just hold down the key while entering the number associated with the symbol you want. Release the key and the symbol appears.
