Hi all,

Following a fairly lengthy, yet successful trial in _chat and a few other areas, we have now added the ability to upload images to all topics - hurrah!

All topics are included at the moment, if we see an increase in spamming or use of indecent or obscene images or we are spammed with inappropriate images in sensitive topics, we will review this. We thought it best to open it up across the site initially but do feedback to us if you are concerned in specific areas.

We are hoping that our Night watchers will see inappropriate images that may be posted during the night and will be able to hide them, but we cannot guarantee this. Please do report anything you see and if you feel that the ability to upload images onto threads is being abused, let us know asap.

We are in the process of adding some image guidelines to the main guidelines too.

Please do enjoy, we always like reports of the funny stuff too, so do feel free to alert us to anything that made you Grin.

Yayyy!!

But if this is going to pave the way for Terry Wogan and Cliff Richards popping up all over MN, then booo hiss!! Grin

CountessOfRule · 11/03/2014 12:16

When will they be added to the app? I'm not fussy about adding them, but at the moment we can't even view them.

I know, I know. It's on the list.

ballsballsballs · 11/03/2014 13:18

:D

Sparklingbrook · 11/03/2014 13:41

Yay!

Can we now have the option to just post a pic with no text in the box?

Felix90 · 11/03/2014 13:45

Yes I'd love to be able to view on the app. Sometimes I open threads and get really confused as I don't realise there's meant to be a photo there and the post doesn't make sense Grin

Jux · 11/03/2014 13:47

All the image boxes are still greyed out for me Sad

Sparklingbrook · 11/03/2014 14:15

aww no, Sad My post of 13:41 contains a pic of the most handsome man ever.

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 11/03/2014 14:20

Thank you!

I'd love it if we could embed images from a URL.

Sparklingbrook · 11/03/2014 14:25

Me too Plenty only I don't know what that means. i am sure it's great though. Grin

PlentyOfPubeGardens · 11/03/2014 14:29

It means you don't have to have the image on your hard drive and upload it, you could just use the web address of any image online like a link and it would show up as an image.

Sparklingbrook · 11/03/2014 14:34

YY i want to be able to do that Plenty-so much easier. I have a file that is titled 'MN pictures' and I forget to delete them. Random is an understatement. If DH ever found it he would be. Confused

BadRoly · 11/03/2014 14:50

Why thank you SparklingBrook, your image will get me through parents evening with a smile on my face!

Sparklingbrook · 11/03/2014 14:52

You are welcome Bad. Smile

Giraffeski · 11/03/2014 14:58

I second the request to be able to see pics in the app- it's so frustrating to open a thread and find that you can't join in because you can't see the pics everyone else can.
Also can't copy and paste- so annoying when doing roll calls in antenatal threads etc

FannyFifer · 11/03/2014 15:07

The iphone app is not great at all.

RebeccaMumsnet · 11/03/2014 15:30

Justine posted about the app the other day she said:

Yes, you're quite right, the app is a bit limited and certainly not as good as it should be. Apologies for that.

It's been a bit of a development lesson for us, really - we outsourced the development thinking it would be most cost effective and now we're stuck with a huge bill every time we want to make the smallest change to keep it up to date with the site. Consequently we've decided to do two things:

  1. develop an ad-free native talk app for Mumsnet in-house and charge a subscription for it
  2. develop a really fabulous Talk mobile site with some app-like functionality that contains ads but free to use.

We want to release these things together so that there's an excellent, viable, free version available at the same time as the subscription, ad-free version.

So all that means that it's a bit of a project. I'm hopeful that we are only weeks off putting out a beta version of the app for testing with a group of users, though. Obviously we'll keep you posted on that. Let me know if you'd like to get a first go at it and be part of the testing group to put it through it's paces.

Gwendoline Angry

Why? Just why??

CountessOfRule · 11/03/2014 16:06

I would LOVE to be a beta tester for the app. I absolutely promise to be constructive.

LESuffolk · 11/03/2014 16:42

You win the Internet for most fervent post EVER Countess. Smile. That was some promise.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 11/03/2014 17:08

Yes please make them accessible in the app- so frustrating

Sparklingbrook · 11/03/2014 17:09

It's not for things like this though.

GingerMaman · 11/03/2014 17:14

Yay! Will this function be added to the app too?

CountessOfRule · 11/03/2014 17:17

It appears that it will only be added to a paid-for app. Not clear if that'd be 79p or £4.99 or by subscription though.

And raises the question: How much would you pay to MN?

LumpySpacePrincessOhMyGlob · 11/03/2014 17:19

Nuff said. Grin
