Mumsnet Local – Do you want to be an Editor for your area?

EmmaMumsnet · 06/02/2014 16:11

January is over so it might be time to poke your nose out and try something new.

Mumsnet Local was revamped last year and we have 180+ local sites across the UK. We aim to have up-to-date info on what's happening where you are, like lots of great ideas for activities to amuse the kids in Half Term. Please do have a look and sign-up to your local site. Where we already have Local Editors, we are now sending out monthly newsletters full of great suggestions of things to do, exclusive local offers for Mumsnetters and lots else besides.

We need your help to make this as good as it can be Thanks Cake

Please pop over and upload a listing, review a local service or have a chat to folks in your local area. Or, if you have more time and are looking to make a little money, you could take on a local site as a Mumsnet Local Editor?

Mumsnet Local Editors manage their Mumsnet Local site, keeping it clean, tidy and up-to-date. They write newsletters and work with local ambassadors (voluntary) to hold meet-ups locally.

Local Editors can make money by contacting businesses local to them and asking them to advertise on their local sites. If you become a Local Editor, you will keep the revenue from the local advertising and offers that you book.

If this sounds of interest to you, then please do send us an email on [email protected] with 'interested in becoming a Local Editor' in the subject field. It helps if you tell us a bit about yourself in the email.

Local is still in its infancy but it's growing all of the time: In the last year we have seen some local editors who have been working hard to build local contacts and communities really starting to see dividends, with several seeing monthly earnings topping £1,000. It is slow and steady but the potential is great for the right people.

We very much look forward to hearing from you if you are interested or have any questions.

Happy New Year

MNHQ

PS, we are still processing emails from the last recruitment thread, as we've been spring cleaning our set-up process, so don't worry, you will hear from us in the next few days. Grin

Often people email in without posting on the thread, so it's just that someone else emailed first. We'll keep you on our spreadsheet though.

We have had masses of emails, which is brilliant – keep them coming, and thanks all. It might mean we take a few days to get back to you, but we're on it and going through them in order.

Why thank you 5madthings

I have press review tickets for Noriwch dwellers. Do you want to go see 'Happy Days' and review it for me?

I hope the new Norwich LE will be cool with my doing that but I set it up before she/he was in post.

LESuffolk is there a local site for Bury St Edmunds? There never used to be which I thought was always a missed opportunity.

Hi - I am in Somerset and don't see us listed. As a writer/editor am very interested. Please let me know if you would like more from us Somerset/Exmoor/N.Devon mums!!

No there isn't but I am based there and it is very well represented on Suffolk. To be honest the towns / county sites being separate means the lines get blurred. I have Ipswich listings for example on Suffolk because people expect them to be there and the same for Norwich/Norfolk. I also work with Ipswich theatres re press and reviewing so will have to work something out with the new Ipswich LE so she can benefit from that too.

Bury isn't big enough to sustain revenue for one Editor in my opinion and advertisers will likely choose to be on the Suffolk site rather than a smaller Bury one. It is a smallish town really although rich in history and a lovely place to visit.

Hi, does anyone look after Cardiff? I was last on there a few weeks ago and it was looking very bare. I'd be interested in finding out more information if there are any positions available.

I've had to give up work due to having two children with special needs but something flexible like this would be a possibility.

I also wanted to be considered for the Isle of Wight, but realised via facebook that some one else had already applied. It would be useful to know how people are selected. Is it a case of selection on the basis of the first person that applies? It would be nice to know that all applicants who have shown interest for a particular area have been considered for the role!
