I find it v annoying to have to turn my iPad round to read MN. Why is it set up in landscape?

Hi there

Thanks for this and we're sorry to be annoying!

Is the iPad new? Is it possible that there's a setting for adjusting landscape/portrait that you haven't found yet? (Hope this doesn't sound patronising - it's the sort of thing I'd do...)

Do any other MNers who use iPads find that this is a problem?

Ah right. It might be that the mobile site would be a better bet then - hopefully that will rotate to fit?

Hi homebythesea, sorry the ipad app is proving annoying. FYI, you can create an ipad shortcut that'll take you straight to the web version of MN without having to fire up the browser first and type the address. Once you're on the Mumsnet page, click on the upper safari toolbar on the icon that looks like a square with an arrow pointing out of it (see picture.) On the menu that pops up click "Add to home screen." Then you get an icon on your ipad like those for any other app. Clicking that will take you straight to mumsnet.

On the portrait vs landscape issue for the app, we could only have a single orientation developed in the first release. Landscape got a better reception in testing, I think mainly because that way round the menu could sit on the left all the time. People felt that was more usable. I think a fair number of people use their ipads mainly in landscape anyway (e.g. for watching videos or reading magazine ipad versions) so they don't have to turn it - it's already the right way round for them.

I hope this is some help.
