Has the option to have unlimited posts on a thread gone now? Do I really have to have stupid pages?

I have come back and rejoined after a break.

I have tried to customise MN so there are no stupid pages back to how I like it but there seems to be a limit of 500 posts per page.

Why?

Where is the unlimited option?

I can't do pages
