Can't search

Is anyone else having problems searching the boards? Either something's not quite right, or I'm losing it completely, but searches only seem to go back a few days. It's not my computer as I managed to briefly nick dp's laptop to check. Help!

Hello all,
We've limited the searches to the last week for the moment. It should all be back at the weekend.

Regards,
Tech

hoxtonchick · 01/03/2004 11:35

thank you!

Ah, that explains why I'd apparently only posted on 10 threads ever or something when I searched just now. I thought that couldn't be right.

hoxtonchick · 01/03/2004 23:31

it scared me too, www!

aaah glad I found this thread. Thought I was going mad !

zebra · 07/03/2004 22:30

...Which weekend would that be, Tech?

Ghosty · 08/03/2004 06:36

Um ... does anyone know what happened to 'Active Conversations' ...? I click it and it seems there are no active conversations! Is this the same problem as the search problems?

tech · 08/03/2004 07:00

Hi Ghosty,
No, we've been doing some work on the server overnight. If you try it now, it should be OK.

Tech

Hello all,
We are part-way through restoring all the old messages. They are currently back in the topic lists and so on and you can read them. The new search facility - to make it easier to find them - will be up in the next couple of days.

Regards,
Tech

bossykate · 08/03/2004 21:12

thanks, tech. i've been searching for my old thread on composting without success...

spacemonkey · 13/03/2004 20:31

Is that new search facility I see before me?

hoxtonchick · 13/03/2004 20:41

wah-hey. thanks tech.

Yeaaaaah! I just spotted it too. Tech, you are a WHIZZ!!!

tigermoth · 15/03/2004 07:30

tech, how can I search for archived threads by author name?

I can see threads that include the name of the author in the text of the message (yippee - that's 500 of them for me). But how can I find threads I contributed to where my name didn't appear in the actual text?

PS a big thanks for getting search up and running!

hoxtonchick · 15/03/2004 07:38

tigermoth (another one to add to your score ), i think all you have to do is put the nickname in the name field, but don't change any of the other settings. it worked for me, anyway.... hth

OP posts:
tigermoth · 16/03/2004 12:18

thanks - I did as you said and it worked. Strangely however I have exactly 500 postings listed under my author name - the exact same number as in the name in message text search. I assume that tech hasn't put all the old threads into search yet, so I get just the most recent 500 - still that's plenty to be going on with.

tech · 17/03/2004 19:41

Hi Tigermoth,
It just limits the results to 500 maximum. There should be a message at the top saying "your search matched more than 500 messages. You may wish to refine it." or something similar.

I just searched on your name and it said
"Found 2059 matching messages.Your search matched more than 500 messages. You may wish to refine it. "

Regards,
Tech

Hymph... am I the only one who is still having trouble searching?

tech · 17/03/2004 21:05

Hi Zebra,
What's the problem you are having?

roisin · 17/03/2004 21:13

When did Mumsnet start? Just done a search on myself (have had 3 different nicknames) and realised I date back to 2000, which is earlier that I'd thought! Feel positively geriatric now.

justiner · 17/03/2004 23:23

Roisin we launched in March 2000. Am wondering who you were then... in those days we had time to read everything and Carrie and I spent quite a lot of hours answering eachothers questions! Now we don't have the time to even post them

roisin · 18/03/2004 08:56

You got some good early publicity then: I read about it in the Sunday Times magazine, I think, and my first post was towards the end of 2000. (kmg)
