We were offline there for about 20 minutes while we did some updates to the server. Sorry about that - sometimes there's no way around it.... thanks for your patience.

OP posts:

OK, you know how inserting a smiley usually pushes that line up but not the rest? All of the lines are now that far apart, so perhaps it has been done on purpose to accommodate smileys?

I will probably get used to it but at the moment I preferred it more squished up - it looked neater!

Yup, definitely the line spacing. Fine by me, though it does give the board a slight easy-read look. Looks the same as before when I'm writing this message, oddly enough. I only MN on a pc.

Oldieandgoldie · 10/09/2013 11:27

New spacing on I-pad 1, too.....I thought it was my eyesight at first!! Smile

mistlethrush · 10/09/2013 11:32

Is it me or does the text look different in itself - not just the line spacing - but each letter seems thinner somehow....

FruOla · 10/09/2013 11:36

Rebecca, I think you need to sticky and duplicate this thread into AIBU and Chat now - whatever plans you have for an information thread later.

There are more "what's happening ...?" threads popping up; as we all come onto MN at different times of the day, these threads are going to keep happening for the next day, or three! Surely it's easier that everyone can see the one official MN thread?

Saffyz · 10/09/2013 11:36

Firefox on a PC here.

Line spacing has increased a lot. I'm finding it harder to read and you don't see as much on one page.

PoppyAmex · 10/09/2013 11:45

Chrome on a Mac and I like the new spacing - I'm finding it easier to read.

lougle · 10/09/2013 11:51

The text looks more compact, but with wider spacings. Firefox here.

BIWI · 10/09/2013 11:57

Chrome, Windows 8 laptop and Mumsnet New here, and the line spacing is definitely 1.5. It spaces things out too much.

It looks nice, but when you're on a long thread it makes it looooooooooooooooong!

BOF · 10/09/2013 12:02

Advanced Search is broken too.

TrinityRhino · 10/09/2013 12:21

I don't like it

make it like it was

Tee2072 · 10/09/2013 13:00

Kerning is the spacing between letters. Leading is the spacing between lines, so called because they used pieces of lead to space them back in the hand set print days.

::layout geek::

YoniBottsBumgina · 10/09/2013 13:02

Oh yes, you are right Blush sorry!

SueFlaysAgainstTheDaleks · 10/09/2013 13:08

I'm also seeing the issue with the OP highlighting (only on Their first post, the rest are highlighted OK)

Am using the mobilr site (not app), and am on Classic

Piffpaffpoff · 10/09/2013 13:16

Line spacing is off here too, on my iPad in Classic.

(loving the leading and kerning chat, oooh takes me right back...!)

BIWI · 10/09/2013 13:18

I'm glad you've stuck with Verdana though! Don't ever, ever, ever consider using Comic Sans

Primrose123 · 10/09/2013 13:25

I use safari on an ipad and safari on an iMac. The font looks the same, but the line spacing has changed. I prefer it actually, it's easier to read, especially when people post long chunks of text.

Piffpaffpoff · 10/09/2013 13:30

Argh, comic sans. You wouldn't see me for dust.

At the risk of outing myself, I once witnessed someone very senior get very angry and upset at being asked to stop doing newsletters in Comic Sans because it was considered unprofessional-looking and too jokey for the 'corporate environment'. They were upset because they had specifically picked it as they felt 'it reflected their personality'. There were tears of laughter from me.

Tee2072 · 10/09/2013 13:37

Poor ole Comic Sans.

FairPhyllis · 10/09/2013 13:37

Using Firefox on a PC. Line spacing is 1.5 here, and it's really difficult to scan threads quickly.

piratecat · 10/09/2013 13:38

spacing is still too wide on Firefox. It's really hard to read. I am really peed off now.

what was the point in changing it please?

BIWI · 10/09/2013 13:38

Ole Comic Sans should be taken round the back and shot, Tee. Can't come quickly enough for me Grin

nickelbabe · 10/09/2013 13:39

the font has definitely changed on the desktop site.
it seems wider (as in the kerning is bigger)

Piffpaffpoff · 10/09/2013 13:41

I'm with BIWI on this Grin.
