It's not so much the advert for me Helen as the fact that nothing appeared below the last post on the thread, no add your message here box, no smileys, no shortcuts. I could only post from my Ipad.

Bit of an own goal if it leads to an epidemic of MNers installing adblockers.

Was it only on that thread or all Good Housekeeping threads?

QuintessentialOldDear · 22/05/2013 12:19

Rotating ads down the side of posts makes the posts impossible to read! Too distracting.

QuintessentialOldDear · 22/05/2013 12:20

Can you just keep them to Aibu. The world would be a more peaceful place if people cant read Aibu properly.

Or descend to an all out war, as people are so annoyed. Could be fun. Olivia would have to be on double "peace and love " duty.

And is that still the case, WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 22/05/2013 12:31

No, but that is only since I installed Adblocker.

From yesterday afternoon until this morning I tried to post to the Flylady thread several times via Safari on a Mac and that was how it was every time. I installed Adblocker an hour or so ago and it is fine now.

I have now moved over to a Windows laptop using IE and no Adblocker (yet!) and have been able to post to the thread but the ad is still very annoying.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 22/05/2013 12:44

The Windows laptop with Chrome also has the ad present but no problems posting.

feetheart · 22/05/2013 13:40

I don't have a problem with ads on MN and realise that the revenue is needed but in the 8 years I have been here I have never seen an ad like this.
It is all-consuming, badly laid out, moves differently on the left and right and is the only thing on this site that has ever set off my visual aura. Surely it can be altered if it has to be there until 31st May - just stopping it moving would help.

HelenMumsnet · 22/05/2013 14:34

We do see what you mean about the moving-differently thing. We'll see if we can get anything done about that.

CHBitchy · 22/05/2013 14:50

If you could just get the ad moving at all it would be a help. it has a 5sec ish flip over rate which is like a distracting pulse of image and tbh I would question how that would be for epileptics too. Horrific for migraine suffers.

DeepRedBetty · 23/05/2013 09:26

came on to start a thread about this. I don't spend much time in Good Housekeeping as the slutty state of my house would show, but when I visited this morning the Karcher ad made me feel seasick. Appreciate you need ad revenue, but could you avoid wriggly ones please?

MrsPennyapple · 23/05/2013 14:56

I, too, understand about ads bringing in revenue, it's a necessary evil. But if I were paying for ad space, I'd refuse to pay for that. I'd expect a better standard from an internationally-renowned website.
