Colour code zombie threads?

quoteunquote · 29/04/2013 19:10

I unwittingly contributed to a thread that had for some reason (best known to the person that did it),been resuscitated,

Could you add, a colour bar where the title is, or on the side, that indicates how old a thread is, blue for current, green a week old, yellow a month, orange six, and red year and beyond,

Then people would be instantly aware when joining in with a thread as to when it was started, as clearly a lot of us don't spot the year when on these threads, and some times people carefully choose threads that the day and month match to resuscitate.

Anyway it would be a simple way of stopping the annoying problem, and for people like the person who started the thread in the above link, they wouldn't have to have something they probably rather forget jump out at them, I hope the OP of that thread is happy now.

Hi there

Thanks for these suggestions; we will have a think about it and come back to you.

RowanMumsnet · 11/05/2013 20:48

Hello

Sorry, not sure where we got to with this; we'll try to find out but it probably won't be until after the weekend. Sorry!

HelenMumsnet · 22/05/2013 17:17

@BoreOfWhabylon

Update: aforementioned fruitloop has now said that this is part of a research project - he looks at 20 threads per day and shares his findings with a 'group'!

Definitely time for colour-coding imo.

Thanks for the heads-up. We'll take a look.

HelenMumsnet · 29/06/2013 18:09

Hello. Thanks for all your posts.

We'll put our zombie-thread thinking caps on. (Or should that be rucksacks?)

just a bump of this zombie thread to point out they are around again, can't believe I read right through one, someone had put zombie thread, but I didn't want to give it another bump.

OH, hows the thinking coming on MNHQ?

Still working on it! Promise to update you all when we're closer to something concrete. We def haven't forgotten, though.

HelenMumsnet · 09/08/2013 16:22

Right. We have released a solution for this. Hope you like it.

STERN NOTE: this is not permission to go around making zombie threads. Anyone who does will be severely walloped round the head with an OF rucksack.

HelenMumsnet · 09/08/2013 16:41

@FancyPuffin

I love it!!!

Shock

You are very very very norty.

I may have to send the undead round.

HelenMumsnet · 09/08/2013 17:50

@YoniBottsBumgina

Ooh!

But how are we supposed to see the new solution if we don't go around making zombie threads? Grin

You can see it without making a zombie thread. Promise.

Just find a thread where the most recent post is six months old or older.

And then close it down nicely - and come and report back.

HelenMumsnet · 09/08/2013 20:27

@quoteunquote

Found it, so if a thread has already been posted on, then the warning will not be there?

So if it is a deliberate resuscitation by a troll person of dubious intention, will they be the only one to see it?

It usually being drawn in because a thread has been bumped that is a problem, when someone has already posted.

The warning will remain as long as the most recent post and/or the next most recent post are more than six months old.

So if a spammer, reanimates it, the warning's still there for the next unsuspecting poster.

@BOF

I love the little cartoon zombie.

It's me after a night on the gin...

I miss gin.

HelenMumsnet · 11/08/2013 10:45

@IamtheZombie

Zombie has now seen the Zombie thread alert. She has also checked her emails. MNHQ appear to have forgotten to contact her to negotiate the terms on which they may use her image.

Ahem.

@Kidsarekarma

Oh, I've just posted on a zombie thread, sorry.

I thought I'd recycle it as it's in site stuff and I have the same problem as the original OP.

No, that's fine, Kidsarekarma. It's not forbidden to reanimate a dead thread. It's just that some folks were posting on them, unaware that it was long dead...

HelenMumsnet · 11/08/2013 21:27

@Onetwothreeoops

So, if a spammer reanimated a thread and posted twice the Zombie warning disappears?

I think I see a potential flaw in the system...

True. But spammers aren't known for their intimate knowledge of MN Talk features, eh?

(well as long as they're not reading this thread Smile)

HelenMumsnet · 12/08/2013 09:31

@atrcts

What's wrong with resurrecting a zombie thread?!!!!

Nothing.

The problem was, some folks weren't realising it was a zombie thread - and were then annoyed at having taken the time to, say, answer someone's questions about potty-training their two-year-old when said two-year-old was now about eight.
