Regular troll name changer starts nasty thread on Style & Beauty. You get masses of reports - even one from me! But you are leaving it because

"the OP is a long time Mumsnetter, who from time to time writes mischievous thread like this one.

She's a good egg though, and we know she doesn't mean any harm. With this in mind, we're going to leave the thread as it is"

So she deliberately starts a goading thread about fat people (again) but that's okay because she's deemed harmless not hurtful.

And I'm not fat so not taking it personally just asking for MNHQ to be consistent.

OP posts:

Oh look it's another pile in against a well known poster. What a surprise. Whose turn is it next? Pag? Aitch? Hecate?

Grow up the lot of you.

usualsuspect · 01/04/2013 20:16

How much will you pay me to defend you when it's your turn, Chub?

EggyFucker · 01/04/2013 20:16

The original poster of the fat arms thread posted something funny, once

In 2008

I remember it well. How strange she is still attempts to trade on it. And I wonder if she dines out on it, around her table.

SecretLindtBunny · 01/04/2013 20:17

In general, it's about double standards chubfuddler

EggyFucker · 01/04/2013 20:17

is

NoelHeadbands · 01/04/2013 20:19

So between ths thread and the other, I'm now imagining Prince Philip in a Norma Desmond turban

hedgefund · 01/04/2013 20:19

i think she's funny, mn is pretty boring without her imo

(counts ££££)

MandragoraWurzelstock · 01/04/2013 20:19

I haven't read the thread but can guess perfectly well who started it all. She is the Jeremy Clarkson of MN and I love her.

The whole thing isn't goady it is self deprecatory and tongue in cheek

it is subtle difference and one that is fairly hard to explain in a tangible sense

but I just laugh when I see her doing this again. If you don't know the history, don't get the gist, then yes it will sound goady and hurtful but it isn't meant that way.

jmo

Chubfuddler · 01/04/2013 20:20

I'm not significant enough usual.

I fail to see a double standard. Come Dine With Me holds the majority of its contestants up to ridicule. A thread on the Internet joining in the ridicule is hardly a big deal.

AlistairSim · 01/04/2013 20:25

GF doesn't mean Gina Ford anymore, does it?

Bugger, I'll never catch up.

landofsoapandglory · 01/04/2013 20:26

No, it's not Chub, it's about the double standards.

The GF OP of the goady thread is apparently 'mischievous' and 'doesn't mean any harm'. But as 'she is a good egg' her thread is left, when other goady threads are deleted, and the op of spoof ones about spoons, who offend no-one is told to cool it.

It makes no sense to me. Posters have complained about it because they are hurt and offended, but MNHQ don't care because they think that the fishy one meant no harm. Other people think she did, because she has history of starting threads like that one.

MmeLindor · 01/04/2013 20:27

We really aren't talking about it on Twitter. Or not much.

I don't always defend her, but I do defend anyone who is called nasty names for starting a silly goady attention seeking thread.

Chubfuddler · 01/04/2013 20:29

I think as explained by hq representative up thread there's not so much a double standard as slightly differing approaches across individual mods. Neither hully nor cod meant any real harm, if you think they are not funny or a bit stupid you can hide the thread.

SecretLindtBunny · 01/04/2013 20:30

Fair enough MmeLindor, but that wasn't the original intent.

People get angry and upset about double standards. Quite rightly.

FloatyBeatie · 01/04/2013 20:32

The tragedy about all this recent controversy is that I need to start an entirely genuine spoon thread but now no one will believe me.Sad

I found another antique spoon in my garden (the number of spoons Edwardians dropped while taking tea al fresco is amazing). I want help identifying its hallmarks and other oddities. But no chance now as all spoons on MN will be deemed as stirring.

BehindLockNumberNine · 01/04/2013 20:33

I was not aware I was calling her names. Unless calling her fishy counts Hmm
I was however bemused by the protecting of her that goes on. Because to my mind she does not always deserve the loyalty.

I thought she had left, she obviously had not but I had not noticed. That shows how little she affects my day to day mning.

And just because a thread is started in jest, it does not always mean it is nice and correct.

That said, we don't always have to do the nice and correct thing.

What raised my eyebrows was the mnhq message where she was described as a harmless good egg.
It shows a spot of MNhq favouritism and that to my mind is not cricket.

Will bow out now, going to find Pag's cocktail and sun fuelled 'no fight' thread, seems a safer place tonight Smile

MmeLindor · 01/04/2013 20:34

Yes, agree Chub. Is the Hully one still there?

Double standards are annoying but unless we clone Justine, we won't ever have truly standard responses.

And even then. I am sure Justine reacts differently at certain times of the day and night and after the third gin

what on EARTH happened to hully? and stop holding cod responsible for it, it's got bog all to do with her.
i've got old saggy arms, btw. i'd love fat, ham leg, filled up arms because then i would wear sleeveless tops and not give a fuck what anyone said about it. (i'd prefer muscley ones, tbh, but that would require some work).
honestly, people, don't take your body ishoos out on everyone else.

MmeLindor · 01/04/2013 20:36

Can I nominate Floaty for QOTW for this

I found another antique spoon in my garden (the number of spoons Edwardians dropped while taking tea al fresco is amazing). I want help identifying its hallmarks and other oddities. But no chance now as all spoons on MN will be deemed as stirring

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 01/04/2013 20:36

arf at 'stirring'.

Chubfuddler · 01/04/2013 20:36

Floaty if I knew anything about spoons I would happily take that thread at face value.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 01/04/2013 20:37

lol, lindty, x-post.

SecretLindtBunny · 01/04/2013 20:40

We aren't holding Cod responsible for Hully's thread.

We are trying to get MNHQ to apply the same rules for everyone.

KatieMiddleton · 01/04/2013 20:42

These double standards, erm, what double standards? Those comparing what happened to Hully with what happened here are getting worked up about something that never happened.

Both threads got reports.
Both ops got an email from MNHQ
Both threads still stand
Both lots of people who reported got mails informing the reporter that the op was alright (confirmed on Hully's site stuff thread by HQ)

If you're complaining because you object to fatist posts then make your case. If you're objecting to the rather subjective use of 'goading' in Talk Guidelines then make your case. If you feel that the threads started are not in the spirit of the site or beyond the pale make your case. But please don't trot out the double standards schtick because there isn't one here when looking at what happened with Hully. And if you just object to Her Fishiness then have a word with yourself because you're actually doing exactly what you are piously bleating about yourself.
