So what's this Mumsnet Mates thing on our profiles all about?

Is it for anything? Or is it the germ of an idea that wasn't fully fleshed out? Or something else?

Enquiring minds wanna know...

I have no idea but you have an absolutely fab username! Grin

ScrambledSmegs · 25/03/2013 10:48

Why thank you Peach Grin. I sense there is a story behind your username. Would you like to tell us?

Morning, morning.

Weeeeeeeell, it was something dreamt up many a moon ago when Profiles first went live.

The idea was that some folks might not want their profile pics to be visible to EVERYONE on MN; that they might prefer instead to limit viewings to just a few MNers.

So, you could make some folks your MN Mates - and then, if you wanted to, set your profile pics so only your MN Mates could see them.

If I remember correctly (was a tad before my MNHQ time), there was then a bit of a robust objection to this, on the grounds that it would create little cliques and those who weren't in one group of MN Mates or another would feel sad/excluded/angry/all of the above. So it was ditched.

But, it appears the "make these people your Mumsnet Mates" bit in My Mumsnet was never nixed oh how efficient and joined-up we are!

We'll take a look at that now.

ScrambledSmegs · 25/03/2013 11:49

Oh, I see. Thanks Helen.

Grin at 'robust objection'. Is there any other kind of objection on MN?

Well, we tend to classify them as Robust, Very Robust, Super Robust, and Run For The Hills, each with different allotted quantities of accompanying gin.

Weeellll a certain user (not naming names bupcakes) admitted to dealing with a bad case of thrush by treating it with yogurt just not any old yogurt oh no peach activia was deemed the best yogurt by this poor user to treat her thrush so I had to steal it. I believe however she registered the username of "TheRealPeachActiviaMinge" Grin

@Maryz

Oh, no don't get rid of it.

I have collected a few mates with useful profiles now, so when I'm bored I can instantly click and see where they are and follow them around whinging talk to them.

I have decided I like it.

Of course, I don't have a profile [gimmer], so no-one can find me [evil cackle]

Aha, maybe that's why we kept it

HeartsEggsDiamonds · 25/03/2013 13:43

Do namechanges follow you through Mumsnet Mates? Most of my name changes are harmless (e.g. seasonal) but every so often I NC to post something that I don't want to be identifiable IYSWIM.

And so if people (ok, one person) have added me to their Mates list as HeartsEggsDiamonds then what will happen when I change back to HeartsTrumpDiamonds after Easter?

[bit thick emoticon]

Am I one of your mates Mary Thanks?

wigglesrock · 25/03/2013 19:34

I use Mumsnet Mates on my postnatal club. I like putting up photos of the baby etc but just so people on my thread can see. You wouldn't be talking about getting rid of that - would you? Smile

Sorry I've been a bit rubbish, I've kind of got out of the habit of the post-natal threads. Will pop by soon and try to catch up. Hope your DD is feeling better now, and your hair is nice and clean!
