Afternoon.

We are currently mopping up after close on 100 (and that's just the last count) spammers posted all over our boards last night and this morning.

Thank you for all your reports. We hope you'll understand that we're not going to reply to them. Please take it as read that we're really grateful.

IMPORTANT: we think we have tabs on pretty much all of the spammers now, so (even if we haven't deleted them all yet) so there is no need to report any more. In fact, any more reports and our system might keel over!

Once we can see the wood for the trees, we'll post again and ask you to report any remaining spam posts we might have missed.

Please bear with us. We are getting there.

Do we know who's doing this yet? I'm guessing it's not anyone who actually thinks we'd want what they're offering (otherwise they need to fire their marketing people).

I think can think of a couple of organisations who might be considered suspects...

They use blogspot to host the link, so could Google not be encouraged to take them offline? Any mumsnetters work for Google?

Have you been congratulated for the error message yet? It is a lovely error message. For those who have not seen it:

Message from MNHQ: In a city, somewhere in the world, lives a bunch of computers called Spambots.

One day the Spambots thought that they would come and invade a pom bear loving web site with their poorly-formatted spammy exercise links. 'HA!' they thought, 'We're going to flood their site!'

But the mumsnetters didn't think that this was very nice, so they reported all of the spambots so that the nice people in the tower could crash the spambots to bits!
It took a while, but the spambots were removed. All of the mumsnetters drank to celebrate (or just for the sake of it) and lived happily ever after.
