Equip me with a big red button. I am awake when you are not. Someone needs to woman these boards.

OP posts:
Tortington · 03/03/2013 02:18

there defo needs to be a 'limited suspension until mn towers can assess it button' manned by trust worthy mods

Tortington · 03/03/2013 02:19

not me - i hasten to add, i like to hide lots of threads as it makes my screen look cluttered, Its like cleaning. so i might clean anything boring - which is mostly everything not worth reporting tBH

purrpurr · 03/03/2013 02:22

WhereYouLeftIt, that's exactly it! I wonder if that's where my lot got it from, too.
Hazel, didn't sound fighty to me, definitely not.

Thumbwitch · 03/03/2013 02:23

SPAMBOTS A-GOGO!
I've an idea - not necessarily a good one - can we have a Report button (like there is a Hide button) on the Active Conversations list? that would be so good - then we could just all hit Report without ever having to open the stupid spambot threads.

Or alternatively, if you can find a way to block the spambots.

And now I've read the rest of the thread and it appears to be a bit of a non-fighty fight about chaps and guys.
I use both gender-neutrally but have tended away from guys recently after being frowned at quite a lot.
'People' doesn't go down well, either, it seems.
So now I just use folks, or Oi you lot.

purrpurr · 03/03/2013 02:24

Custardo, you could develop a Mumsnet Prime site, where anything deemed boring or needlessly inflammatory (e.g. How do I tell my son that pink things are only for girls?) is hidden, thus saving members and the NHS a fortune, where otherwise members would've keeled over with high blood pressure.

KatieMiddleton · 03/03/2013 02:25

Folks is a good option when chaps and guys won't do.

I can't bring myself to actually say it, but will type it.

Thumbwitch · 03/03/2013 02:29

Oh purrpurr - that thread's ok, almost everyone is giving the OP a bit of a "sort-out" re her backward thinking Wink

DeepRedBetty · 03/03/2013 02:30

The only trouble with a 'Report' button like the 'Hide' button is that so often the title of a thread is only a faint clue to what lies within.

Although I'd love an early warning flag about DM link in OP!

DoubleLifeIsALifeHalved · 03/03/2013 02:31

Folks it is ... Though sounds a little well folksy :)

Hummm, debates merits of 'humans' or 'homo sapiens' as a chirpy inclusive pronoun... Catchy? Hum, no!

Revival of 'ladles and jellyspoons' perhaps?

Am trying to satisfy the urge to post whilst hiding on here, but tis to no avail, I feel Mumsnet is a little soiled by bots and hate trolls, and I'll have to do something else instead whilst awaiting sleep. What did I DO before Mumsnet though? (sobs)

(shambles off into the night)

purrpurr · 03/03/2013 02:32

Thumbwitch, I nearly expired just looking at it in the Active Conversations list, I didn't dare go near it! Glad to hear the sanity of Mumsnet has prevailed once again.

purrpurr · 03/03/2013 02:33

Double, nooooo, come back. It's a decent place to hide, there might be lukewarm coffee somewhere. One of the other threads about tonight's spamming mentions donuts though... Mmmm donuts. Or, in my case, mmm, several hours of heartburn, mainlining Gaviscon and crying... God I need to be put down. More tea vicar!

KatieMiddleton · 03/03/2013 02:37

I can't decide what's more annoying: gazillions of spambot posts or the half a gazillion site stuff threads moaning about them. When you throw in the mra trolls it is all a bit too messy out there for my liking Angry

Tortington · 03/03/2013 02:39

just after my cleaning comment, millions of bots - my screen is ver untidy and i'ts making me weak at the knees, i might faint. i mist faint i tell ya. i cant take all the clutter. its untidy - MN is untidy!!

purrpurr · 03/03/2013 02:40

Totally agreed, proper mess. Really liking the multi-hide suggestion by a previous commenter - to be able to choose Hide from the Active Conversations page, with that to reload the page with a tick box alongside each thread, so the user can choose to Hide several threads in one go.

purrpurr · 03/03/2013 02:41

Custardo, cripes, get yesen a wee dram of something to take the edge off!

AmberLeaf · 03/03/2013 02:41

I wish you could hide them without having to open them, would be a lot quicker.

I thought someone did the night shift?

Hazel the only trouble with posting then reporting is your post keeps them bumped up on active conversations. we need to post on other normal threads to banish the spam from active.

Why am I awake anyway? insomnia is shit.

DoubleLifeIsALifeHalved · 03/03/2013 02:42

Oh purr purr, you sound poorly, and with bump coughing is hideous, poor you! Am annoyed that Active Conversations is totally filled with spam & hate, so am going to try radio and a darkened room and see if that sends me off to sleep before my little coughing blighter wakes up again!

Ds is a definite 'misery loves company' boy and when he wakes up coughing cries 'make me better' in distraught tones and the only thing I can do is to stroke him asleep sitting up (lying on me) so then my arm goes to sleep. As soon as I lower his head to pillow the cough creeps back. Ooof!

Coughing over a bump is alot worse though, much sympathy!

KatieMiddleton · 03/03/2013 02:42

I know what you mean Custy. it's making me a bit anxious all the littering. I've been hiding them but I can't tap fast enough.

AmberLeaf · 03/03/2013 02:44

Chorusforpoormortals · 03/03/2013 02:44

Has Towers replied to any of the reports/site stuff threads yet?

Tortington · 03/03/2013 02:45

You can amber - you don't have to open them there should be a hide buton underneath the thread - im in classic view though.

yes Katie, littering it is you hit the nail on the head

KatieMiddleton · 03/03/2013 02:45

You can hide without opening. Customise your settings so a little - button shows on active convos.

ThePathanKhansAmnesiac · 03/03/2013 02:46

Can I take refuge here? It,s so scary out there.
Where are mnhq?
I might post mitmoo just to see what happens.

purrpurr · 03/03/2013 02:46

God I think if I had a small one whimpering 'make me better' at me I'd probably start crying myself. Hope the radio + darkened room works for you :)

purrpurr · 03/03/2013 02:53

Custardo and Katie - many thanks for the tip, customised so I can choose to Hide from the Active Conversations view. Now all clean and tidy.
