To keep you in the picture we have replaced our moderators with a "Contact Mumsnet about this post" system - the little red exclamation mark by every post. We have been advised that it makes our position with regard to liability for what’s posted on our discussion boards a bit clearer, plus Mumsnet's moderators have never had editing powers, so in some ways the term moderators was anyway a misnomer.
What's more, given the sheer volume of posts on Mumsnet these days it's an impossible task to keep abreast of everything, so it makes more sense to facilitate the communal policing of our boards that happens in practice anyway.
Thanks to everyone who has taken the time and trouble to keep us informed about unanswered questions, unpaid for ads and abuse of our talk policy etc. Please be aware that if you do contact us about a post, we will always take it seriously and check it out but due to the volume of mails we sometimes receive we may not always be able to reply personally.
We’ve also put a link to a general disclaimer at the top of the Talk pages. It’s a good idea for all Mumsnet members to have a read through when you get a chance (apologies for the legalese!) and to bear in mind that technically you could be legally liable for your postings were someone of a mind to sue you. Mumsnet is such a close community it can be easy to forget sometimes that this is a public forum and the world wide web is open to all.
