Hello. After a lot of thought and a fair bit of moaning from you folks, we have realised that insisting on everyone having a special Local nickname that's different from their normal Talk nickname is probably not the best idea.

We know a lot of you like the idea of keeping your regular Talk nickname separate from your Local nickname - and that's still fine.

But if you don't mind having the same name in both places, that's now also fine, too.

So, if you haven't already had a good chinwag in Local Talk, please do feel free to do so now. And why not add some listings while you're there?

All you need to do is hit the blue Local tab in the "navigation bar" up there^^

Enjoy!

You're welcome to keep the separate names, if you'd like, wannabedomesticgoddess. As we've said, it has many advantages.

But if you have already chosen a Local name and are actually really keen to use the same name in Local and on main Talk, please mail [email protected] with Local User Name in the subject title - and we'll see what we can do for you.

@herewegoloubylou

Can we start getting local listings on the right of our screen again? I miss them.

Yes, that's definitely the plan loubylou. It might remind people that Local is there!

@zcos

There is no up there on ipad app ... Does anyone know how to view!

If you use the desktop version on the iPad, it looks and works just dandy. Looking at Local through the iPad app does have to be fine-tuned though.

@Ruprekt

Blush

Where is Mumsnet Local?

Go to the desktop site, click on Local on the Nav bar and choose from the UK map. If you're on a mobile, you'll view the mobile site unless you click 'desktop site' at the bottom of the mobile pages.

@ChaosTrulyReigns

Why's it take me to Dundee, EmmaMN?

Confused still.

At the moment, we're using cookies, so Dundee must have been the last site you looked at. From the Dundee site, just click on 'Find a local site' just under the nav bar on the left hand side. That will take you to the UK map and you can choose another site.

@zcos

Found it think its in topics right down bottom absolutely nothing on all the areas within 10 mile radius of me ... And one is a capital city!! For shame!
Can you tell me roughly where you are? You can pm me if you're worried about outing yourself.

EmmaMumsnet · 25/01/2013 11:05

@GreatGooglyMoogly

When you revamped Local, did it delete all of the existing listings (other than talk)?
We talked about migrating them initially, but the new site listings ask for different fields and it was going to be a nightmare trying to merge them.

For those of us who mn in random places on our mobile any chance of an easy link on the mobile version?

Proffers gin which I believe is the best way to bribe? Oh and a pair of yaktraks so you dont fall over afterwards

@Spero

o for goodness sake. This is rubbish. I did as was directed and clicked on local. I am given a big map. I can see Bristol on it, when I attempt to click on Bristol I am told to go to Gloucester. I put Bristol in the search box and get a load of listings for Blaise Castle etc.

What is the point of this? Why on earth did we lose the old site?

I think you must have clicked on Gloucestershire rather than Bristol on the map. Try the direct link

@blondieminx

for the Colchester and maybe Chelmsford etc sites is it worth partnering with the marvellous Essex Mums which carries detailed listings? Also kidaround v useful for finding out what's on in the area.

I think others have previously commented that the local site for this region is underused because of the existing listings but a signpost to those 2 sites on the MN local site might help new mums / mums new to the area find suitable groups and classes.

Could you agree some sort of click through referral rate maybe?

Hi Blondie, we haven't got a Local Editor in all areas yet and Essex is one of those without, so it might be a bit quiet until we do, but we're getting there. We'll have a look at those sites, thanks for the tip.

EmmaMumsnet · 28/01/2013 11:47

@Spero

Yes. I am aware of that. I tried clicking on Bristol to no avail. I then put 'bristol' into the search box and got a load of listings for Blaise castle.

I am sorry but I don't think this is down to my failings. The site seems very difficult to navigate. It ought to be a simple click. And it isn't. At least not for me.

We agree with you about the search box and changes to that are on the tech list. We weren't trying to point out failings, just suggesting what might have happened. Bristol is hard to click on unless you magnify the map because it's a small area. Did you manage to get there with the link? Bristol is one of our busier sites so it's worth a look.

@FarelyKnuts

I would be more inclined to gasp in appreciation if there was any sign of Ireland being clickable. I can see it sitting there teasing me but nada :(

We're planning sites for the Republic of Ireland very soon Knuts.

@AnyaKnowIt

Any chance that the Channel Islands are separated by Islands please

I've added area labels to the Channel Islands site so that all listings and Meet-ups can now be separated by island.
