Local - is it working for you?

Just looked at the new Mumsnet Local.
I see the first map, click through to my local area - Surrey.

Then I've looked at Soft Play, Playgrounds, Toddler Groups and they don't show anything. I just see the top banner, side things, footer, and the section title. Nothing below it.

What is it trying to load - a map?

I'm using Google Chrome on Windows Vista, if that's any help.

Techy Stuff:
DIV affected is: local_Main
DIV class side_buttons is empty
DIV class listingslist list1 is empty

Hello. Yes, we do know there is a problem with the Friendship Bench.

We're on it and we hope to have to working as soon as poss.

Thanks for your patience - and great to know you're all so keen to use it Smile

@FeersumEndjinn

Well congratulations MNHQ you have just managed to kill what was beginning to be a thriving MN community in our area. Before you stuffed things up for us, we had started having meetups and getting to know each other nicely.

Now we are forbidden from posting unless we choose a new, unchangable name. No-one wants to do this, and even if we did it would be pointless as we would all have to identify outselves as our old name that everyone already knows us by. So, the existing threads have been unposted on since this rule was introduced, and the network is falling apart. Also, one thread on which we were arraging a forthcoming meetup has completely disappeared.

One meetup that had been arranged before you changed the rules did happen, and we were unanimous in how unimpressed we are. No-one has posted any further since. We don't want to be forced into a namechange thank you. We were getting on fine. If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Why can't you let us post on existing threads under the name we are already using on that thread?

Hi Feersome,
You can just add one digit to your old Local nickname so that everyone still knows who you are, so you could be Feersome1 or StillFeersome for example. The last thing we wanted to do was stuff things up for existing local Mumsnet communities. If you've already created a Local nickname and you aren't happy, I think we could ask tech for a one-off amnesty and get them changed. Either pm me or email local.mumsnet.com.

@noseynoonoo

2 weeks later, I am still trying to put a listing on the Croydon site - any idea when this might be possible?

What's happening when you try to put a listing up noonoo? Lots of listings are being loaded onto the site, so it may just be that you hit one of the periods over the weekend when the tech were making changes.

EmmaMumsnet · 13/11/2012 14:15

@BornSour

I still have the problem that the only option open to me is to select the whole county as there's no local for my area. If there was a local for my area within the county, there's lots I could add.
Do you mean listings? Once there is a Local Editor looking after your local site, there will be area labels so you'll be able to search everything by local town.

EmmaMumsnet · 13/11/2012 14:23

@Stevie77

Not sure if this has been mentioned but Manchester is not showing in the list of Local Talk for England. That list is not in alpha order either. I'm on an iPhone if this makes a difference (used to show)

Thanks for flagging that up Stevie, tech are onto that

EmmaMumsnet · 14/11/2012 08:09

@BornSour

Ok - how do I become a local editor so I can get my town included?

pm me?

EmmaMumsnet · 14/11/2012 08:12

@NessaRose

I just tried to add my local Childrens center, but it would not let me as it wants a start date and a end date. I did click the ongoing thing. Confused

That's a glitch Nessa, dates on ongoing listings should be automatic. But if you just put today's date as a start date, and then the end date in a few year's time for now, that'll work. We need reminders to check details every so often so we don't end up with out of date listings.

@wigglesrock

Can I ask? Is Belfast the only local site for NI or have I broken it again?

No, there's Belfast and all the counties. Click on Northern Ireland on the UK map at local.mumsnet.com and they're listed in the dark green buttons on the right hand side.

EmmaMumsnet · 14/11/2012 08:15

@prettybird

Either I'm being blind or lazy but is the only way "back" to "Threads I'm On" via the "back to Mumsnet.com" icon on the top right (which I only found by looking on this thread, as I don't normally look at anything on the right)? And then I have to go back into Talk?

Is this a sneaky way to make us look at the rest of Mumsnet? HmmWink

I'll just use the "back" button on my browser - but it does seem strange.

There's a magic link coming from Local talk to Mumsnet main talk, but it's not there yet. Smile

EmmaMumsnet · 14/11/2012 08:40

@prettybird

The other question is: Have all the listings and local activities that had been loaded onto the "old" version been lost? I know I loaded a few and now can't see any.

Also, the range of "Sports" seem somewhat eclectic, especially for a site aimed at families: Airsports, motorsports and boxing but no rugby? Confused nothing to do with the time I took with the old version loading in the details for the local rugby club

We're looking into migrating old listings so all might not be lost. Can't believe we forgot about rugby? It's there now. If it's any consolation we forgot about football too Blush

EmmaMumsnet · 14/11/2012 21:37

@noseynoonoo

EmmaMumsnet Absolutely nothing happens when I try to add a listing to th Croydon site. I press Preview or Post and nothing happens at all. I've tried it about 20 times over several weeks now.

When you're on the form and you press preview or post and nothing happens, try scrolling up to see if there is an error (shown in red ? something you haven't put in that you need to).

EmmaMumsnet · 14/11/2012 21:38

@wigglesrock

Emma, thanks - still can't do it - but don't worry I'm notoriously shite at things like this. I can only get to Mumsnet Belfast or see the London map - can't get to UK map. Never worry I'll have a nosy later when I've recovered from the Baby Jake marathon I'm enjoying with dd3 - living the dream. Thanks for getting back to me.
Grin

EmmaMumsnet · 15/11/2012 21:38

@noseynoonoo

Emmamumsnet There are no errors shown in red.

OK, well that scotches theory number one what device and browser are you using?
