Hello. We've been aware for a while now that MN Local isn't all it could be and we've been beavering away for several months now to make it much, much better.

And today's the Grand Unveiling of the all-new, all-singing, all-dancing (well, OK, not quite singing and dancing just yet) Mumsnet Local

We've reorganised the Local sites a bit (they were a bit random, geographically speaking, before). And, if you go to your nearest Mumsnet Local site, you'll see there's much more to it and it's much easier to find your way about. There are loads more categories for listings and space for reviews, and you'll find nearly new inside an expanded Classifieds section - which should make your Mumsnet Local an altogether more helpful place to hang out. Don't worry, we haven't lost the talk threads from old Local. They'll be reappearing in the new sites very soon.

Some Mumsnet Local sites are still a bit light on listings and info (we're working on that right now) but, if you'd like a look at what we're hoping all Mumsnet Locals will look like pretty darn soon, do have a butcher's at Bath. If you want to share something with other Mumsnetters on any of the sites, just click on Add a Listing (the pink button on the right just under the navigation bar).

Sites that are not far behind include Bedford, Bedfordshire, Berkshire, Bolton & Bury, Manchester & Trafford, Bournemouth & Poole, Brighton & Hove, Bristol, Buckinghamshire, Cheshire, Exeter, Hampshire, Hertfordshire, Kent, Milton Keynes, Oxford, Portsmouth, Southampton, Surrey, and in London? Barnet, Lambeth, Hackney, Haringey, Hillingdon, Islington, Southwark, Tower Hamlets, Wandsworth and Waltham Forest boroughs.

And we're hoping all the other Local sites, including those in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, will be hot on their tails. We're looking to entice people to look after these sites, but more on that soon.

We've designed an easy-to-use Meet Ups page. If you want to volunteer to organise a regular meet-up in your area, just email [email protected] . There are more bits and pieces and snazzy new features to come, too. Once --Tech's had a bit of a lie down

We do hope you like what you see. Do let us know what you think - as ever, all feedback is most welcome.

@TheJoyfulPuddlejumper

I want to see!

Try this, TheJoyfulPuddlejumper

HelenMumsnet · 17/10/2012 13:51

@ItsAllGoingToBeFine

emmamnhq Yes on local.mumsnet.com/glasgow/soft-play

It has mn local Glasgow logo at top, then search box, then classes in Richmond on Thames, then filter 1,2,3,4 then venue hotel, then the test ads.

Aha! We see what you mean now: you're on a mobile, right?

It's a glitch with the mobile version only - we'll get cracking on fixing that.

In the meantime, do please have a look at the desktop version (if you can). That's all working fine.

HelenMumsnet · 17/10/2012 13:55

@BedHog

My town has gone! Sad

And what does '500 Servlet Exception' mean? Confused

Which town are you looking for, BedHog?

HelenMumsnet · 17/10/2012 13:58

@TheJoyfulPuddlejumper

Sad Nope. Not through the mobile site or the desktop site. Sad Maybe it's my phone? [hopeful]

Oh no, that's pants. Sad

Do you have a computer somewhere? Could you try it later on and let us know how you get on?

EmmaMumsnet · 17/10/2012 14:01

@winterland

is the scottish borders working? Thats a pretty big area though - can we just have Peebles and surrounding as one local site?

Yes, try local.mumsnet.com/scottish-borders (remember not to type www before). Once there's a Local Editor for your area, you'll be able to search everything more locally, so Peebles would be an area label within the Scottish Borders site

HelenMumsnet · 17/10/2012 14:03

@BedHog

Hastings.

It used to be Hastings & Eastbourne, but all the threads were mostly about Hastings because Eastbourne is populated by old folks, but now it looks like Eastbourne has stayed and Hastings has been given the old heave-ho. Hopefully I'm wrong, there were quite a few of us chatting on there recently.

OK, Hastings is now part of East Sussex Local. So that's local.mumsnet.com/east-sussex (no www).

Your Talk threads haven't been nuked, though. You should be able to find them in East Sussex. Smile

EmmaMumsnet · 17/10/2012 14:06

@AWimbaWay

Harrogate local has gone, I presume we're now just bunched in with North Yorkshire? I can kind of see why seeing as I was the only person who answered any posts on there but North Yorkshire is very big and I'll probably stop using local now as it's not local enough IYSWIM?

Hi AWimbaWayOnce the sites have Local Editors, they will have area labels added, then you'll be able to search everything by your local area label. So you would be able to filter all results in any category for Harrogate

EmmaMumsnet · 17/10/2012 14:08

@ScreamingManAndGoryOn

Hi Emma - When I click on Cumbria, nothing shows on the right hand side to select.

Also, both Lancashire and Cumbria are massive, so having a general local page may not work. If there are pages for Preston, Blackpool and Blackburn, why can't there be a page for another smaller area than the whole county?

See my reply to AWimbaWay?

EmmaMumsnet · 17/10/2012 14:10

@winterland

Thanks Emmamumsnet - who gets to be the local editor? I can do it??

Great, yes please. We've got Local Editors for all the sites mentioned in the OP, but pm me with where you are and I can explain more?

HelenMumsnet · 17/10/2012 14:11

@EduCated

Birmingham isn't working on local.mumsnet.com/Birmingham

T'is the old Servlet 500 thingy...

Try a small b, EduCated.

All I get is "new feature coming soon" if I click anything other than the map.

Try clicking the bluey/green tabs instead?

Um.. BLuey/green tabs...? The map bit works fine... things like "my local site" and address book" just say new feature coming soon

Not that I'm bothered. I never look at My Local TBH.

Look higher, Soupy. The Things To Do tab, Meetups etc

EmmaMumsnet · 17/10/2012 14:20

@EauRouge

Ooh, I like it! I've registered and added an attraction to my local page. It wanted a start and end date though, and there was no way to opt out of it. The attraction is open year round so I wasn't sure what to put.

There'll be some tool tips on the Add a Listing form very soon explaining things like that. For any ongoing listing, just put today's date in for the start date and make the end date in a year's time. It's basically so we can keep the listings up-to-date.

HelenMumsnet · 17/10/2012 14:22

@SoupDragon

I'm talking about the page with the map on it rather than any of the local pages. Those tabs aren't there.

On the map page, even the "my local site" gives me a "coming soon..." message.

Ah, ok. Yes, the map's a bit glitchy We're about to release a fix to sort it.

Try clicking on the link to Bath Local in EmmaMumsnet's OP: then you'll see what we mean.

EmmaMumsnet · 17/10/2012 14:31

@SoupDragon

As an aside, can we now remove the very last location from our list of local sites? You couldn't do this before.

Once the My Local Sites glitch is fixed, you'll be able to select a primary site, and create a list of other favourites, so you'll be able to switch between favourite sites very easily

EmmaMumsnet · 17/10/2012 14:38

The UK Map is now fixed .Let us know if you're still having problems

HelenMumsnet · 17/10/2012 14:41

@SoupDragon

I want to remove all sites from the list of "my local" - at the moment I am stuck with one and it annoys me. It causes "local" threads to stick themselves to the top of my active conversations.

They should have gone. Cos it's all new and different now.

Now that the map's fixed, wanna have a try and see what happens?

HelenMumsnet · 17/10/2012 14:57

@Pascha

Still up the Swannee on the iPhone...

Which Local are you looking for, Pascha?

HelenMumsnet · 17/10/2012 15:15

@GlaikitFizZombie

emma I'm a tsarina too and other than your first email saying local was changing I haven't heard anything else. Do you still need me?

Course we still need you! We'll get Emma to PM you.

HelenMumsnet · 17/10/2012 15:31

@SkippyYourFriendEverTrue

Local Talk doesn't work?

You're quite right. The Talk boards don't seem to be there yet. We'll check what's happening for you.

HelenMumsnet · 17/10/2012 15:32

@MmeLindor

It looks lovely - well done, Emma and all who worked on it.

Dundee doesn't seem to have any attractions though. :)

Thanks. MmeL.

And, erm, fancy adding a few?

HelenMumsnet · 17/10/2012 15:37
