HelenMumsnet · 03/10/2012 18:27

Hello. We hope you all already feel you can talk to us at MNHQ anytime - either by starting a thread in Site Stuff or by mailing us or reporting a post.

But we also thought it might be useful/interesting to have a live discussion about how how about we do things re moderation etc...

So, we're hosting our very own MNHQ live webchat!

Please do join us at 1pm on Thursday to ask (more or less) anything you want. And, if you can't make then, do feel free to post a nice question here in advance.

@ChristmasKate

Thanks for the reply.

Kicks techs butt into action.

Is there a plan to thin topics as asked up thread?

I would also like a NN amnesty, although I can imagine it would be a lot of hard work

Over to Helen - it's on her "To Do" list
Sadly I'll be at the dentist (really truly sadly) so will miss the fun.

Just wondering, like, what the monthly consumption of gin is with you at MNTowers. Also, does the weekend consumption at least quadruple the weekday total?

Who eats the most biscuits and what are your favourite ones?

Pertinent questions I feel. Ta.

Monthly consumption of gin = shocking.

Weekend consumption of gin = truly shocking.

Chief Biscuit Eater = used to be Justine. But now is probably me. Blush
I've gone all low carb Halo.

HelenMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:20

@TheAngelshavetheOod

How many of you actually are there ?

There's KatMumsnet, SandyMumsnet, RebeccaMumsnet, RowanMumsnet, OliviaMumsnet, LisaMumsnet, CatherineMumsnet and ToniMumsnet.

We all work different days and shifts, though. So it's usually just one or two of us at a time.

JustineMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:21

@Blatherskite

Agree volunteer mods would be a nightmare. The only posters who would volunteer would be the ones that really shouldn't

Smile Plus one of those sites that have volunteer mods, naming no names, just had to pay a £250k settlement in a libel case because the mods left something up they shouldn't... 250k Shock That's more than we pay Olivia.

HelenMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:22

@HeartsTrumpDiamonds

Further to threads being deleted - could you leave the thread name up for a while with a "This thread has been deleted at the request of the OP" or "This thread has been deleted as it has been determined the OP was a troll" or even just "This thread has been deleted"

Leave that message up for a day or couple of days, would save me time hours of advanced searching for threads I have a vague memory of & want to know what happened but haven't bookmarked.

We do actually leave a message up now that displays when you call up the thread.

Did one yesterday about hairy-handedness

But we need to extend it so it shows up in Threads I'm On or summat because it's clear that not many of you see the messages now.

We did this once - nickname amnesty - it was so complicated tech-wise I fear they would all stage a tunnelled escape from the shed if we suggested it. But we will think on it I promise.

HelenMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:23

@SuePurblybilt

I've never pissed off seen ToniMN

She's very new. And mostly does general enquiries over the weekend.

We've yet to bloody her on the boards. Grin

EmmaMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:24

@Iggly

On a more serious note though please can we improve the local pages/boards? I'm a tsarina thingy but didn't get any info on how to update the pages etc. new mums come here looking for info like baby groups etc but end up on nethunsmums as it has much better info.

Hi Iggly, We are very close to launching our new Local pages, which is why we've disabled the ability to load up listings at the moment. We hope you'll like the new designs and navigation? More from us next week on this. We would still love you to be involved locally, and there will be plenty of opportunities for anyone who wants to join in. I'll PM you with a few more details.

JustineMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:25

@FunnysInLaJardin

the other issue is that a lot of us 'ole timers' just don't report as we deal with any issues on the thread. Tis how we have been brought up. Some newer member report anything and everything

We do try to exercise some subtlety and take each post as it comes rather than have a list of words/phrases etc that get auto deleted.

All those forums we've just met with have auto censoring of swear words by the way. Couldn't believe we didn't!

JustineMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:26

@SummerSolstice

Oooooh, and following on from the 'Crap Mummy Awards' thread. What has been your biggest parenting mistake?

Having so many children?

No, seriously, taking it far too seriously first time round. Thinking every time they/I did something wrong it was momentous and meant somehting.

KateMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:27

@JustineMumsnet
I like this one

Who would you really like to get on for a webchat but haven't been able to persuade?

George Osborne. He told me "I'm not stupid" when I asked him. To be fair think he has a point.

But he has promised he'll come. We even shook hands on it. So that should be fun.
You asked George Osborne if he was stupid Grin?

HelenMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:27

@SummerSolstice

What are your most memorable threads? And, as already mentioned, do you post anonymously?

Oooh, have many memorable threads but the one I talk about most to people who don't "get" MN is the lost toy dog on Blackpool pier thread. I heart the lovely MNers who helped that newbie and her DS.

Justine has a fondness for the Centerparcs thread Hmm

And yes, quite a lot of us post anonymously.

JustineMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:28

@nottersgotterdog

Justine, did you get my email on Monday?

It was very appreciative. Grin

Erm, I don't think so but I'm very crap at remembering things [hedges bets]

HelenMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:29

@Blatherskite

You missed EmmaMumsnet off your list Helen!

Sorry. Was only namechecking the Community team. EmmaMumsnet is Chief Mumsnet Local Person.

JustineMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:30

@bunjies

Am I the oldiest Mumsnetter who's still posting? Wink And I don't mean in age.

Nope. That's me. You are number 1433 so suspect there are few others still around.

HelenMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:30

@StripyShoes

Olivia should get paid more. She always gets the norty shifts!

She is paid extra in gin.

HelenMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:30

@StewieGriffinsMom

Helen once promised to look into changing the message deleted bit to say: message deleted due to nincompoopery. I am still waiting for that. It is important to me.

Ha! May well practise that one on your next post, SGM...

JustineMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:31

@BigStickBIWI

I'd like to know where Carrie has gone. It's been a long time since I've seen her posting anything here. Unless she is trolling the boards, of course

She still about but mostly swanning around pressing the flesh and trying to get brands to part with some cash Smile.

JustineMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:32
Are you on my Bootcamp Justine?!

JustineMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:34

@EchoBitch

How many warnings do you give before banning posters?

Do you think you've ever banned anyone unfairly and would you let them return if you reconsidered and felt you may have been unduly harsh?

It varies. Depends on the seriousness of the crime/ whether they're trolls or just often cross. Sometimes they might not even get a warning. But on average I'd say 3 strikes is about right if it's for fairly serious stuff Hully's had about 45 I think Wink.

HelenMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:34

@SummerSolstice

Oooooh, and following on from the 'Crap Mummy Awards' thread. What has been your biggest parenting mistake?

There are so many.

But probably the most memorable was leaving toddler PFB DS1 with his dad for the a whole day. Had never done that before (told you he was PFB).

Came back to find DH asleep on sofa, and DS1 jumping up and down on sofa, yelling, "Look! I'm in the 3.30 at Uttoxeter, Mummy!"

JustineMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:36

@MaryZed

Where did Tech and YetMoreTech and DamianTech go?

Is there only one Tech now, or do lots of them post as Tech, or do lots of them do Tech, but only one posts?

[complicated]

So Tech is one of the original founders and is still with us, albeit across the pond.

YetMoreTech operates our servers but has his own company. Occasionally I take him out to lunch to tap into his unfeasibly large brain.

DamienTech left us to go the Student Room in Brighton [sob]

But we have AdamTech and BrunoTech and very newly-arrived GeorgeTech

Will ask them to say Hi.

HelenMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:37

@Bossybritches22

How do you keep your cool when trying to stop a bunfight?

I can imagine you pace the office & shout "OH FFS!!!!" whilst necking gin at the screens sometimes? Grin

You must want to throttle some posters at times.

Ha! It's probably fair to say my screen has heard its share of "Oh FFS!", though everyone else on the Community team is amazingly calm and serene. Puts me to shame.

Yy to throttle wishes. But for the truckers and perves. Mostly

HelenMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:38

@MaryZed

I caught a mnhq-er out once sockpuppeting namechanging on a thread. Her comments came out all blue, but in a different name. It was very funny.

I couldn't share my mirth, though, because I never told anyone and I didn't even advance search the name, because I am a good girl. I did feel slightly smug for a little bit.

HelenMumsnet · 04/10/2012 13:39

@FunnysInLaJardin

so HelenMN you mean you sock puppet Shock you could be banned for that

No. I'm NEVER on the same thread as HelenMN when I'm ANOtherPerson
