I've had that redirection page a few times tonight, on Chrome on laptop and Safari on iPad.

IamtheZombie · 29/08/2012 00:54

That makes it sound as though Google has inserted the re-direction page then, EduCated.

EduCated · 29/08/2012 00:58

Yes, just looked again and it's a Google URL. Also, was it supposed to show. A picture, cos it just took me to some strange forum Confused

IamtheZombie · 29/08/2012 01:06

Only Rebecca can say what the final destination was supposed to be. But Zombie agrees; that forum was downright weird.

Sossiges · 29/08/2012 01:08

Thanks for the link Hassled, what a fantastic thread [tears running down face]

RebeccaMumsnet · 29/08/2012 09:50

@IamtheZombie

Rebecca, do you remember Bonkey's thread about links the other day? Well, your link is doing just what her links were - taking Zombie to a re-direction page:

Redirect Notice

The previous page is sending you to www.bangingtunes.com/forum/topic/t82278/.

If you do not want to visit that page, you can return to the previous page.

The URL in the address bar is a Google search result. Zombie has to click on the www.bangingtunes.com/forum/topics/t82278/ on the re-direction page in order to get to the final destination.

Zombie wonders if Google has changed something? Or if it's a browser thing (Zombie uses Firefox)?

How odd?

RebeccaMumsnet · 29/08/2012 09:51

How about this?

Feels like one of those jokes you have to explain so it is no longer funny.

Will ask tech what is happening.

NetworkGuy · 29/08/2012 10:11

The full link is just
www.bangingtunes.com/forum/topics/t82278/

however, your link from your browser (which browser, which OS? I'm using Safari on an iMac this morning) is adding all that Google junk. Presumably you are using something like Chrome or have logged in on Google for GMail or YouTube and it appears your browser is adding all that junk.

OR

maybe you searched on Google and did a 'Copy link' click from the search page, which is therefore including the Google redirect (and since we're not logged in with your Google session, we see this extra page, while your browser would go to www.bangingtunes.com/forum/topics/t82278/ for you [after briefly visiting the Google link and then switching for you]

NetworkGuy · 29/08/2012 10:14

Really strange - for a moment I was seeing your whole link with Google (and that you are using Firefox on Apple ? said Firefox-a or similar) but now the link in your 09:51 post no longer shows the Google bits when I hover over it
so did Tech modify the posting ?

Thanks NetworkGuy, I have spoken to tech who have sorted, it was a spammy site Blush

Nope, I did

NetworkGuy · 29/08/2012 10:16

and now that 'always lowering the tone' post doesn't seem to have a link in it at all...

what's going on, I think we should be told !!!!

NetworkGuy · 29/08/2012 10:17

Oh well. It was definitely strange seeing that Google page, and some of their 'warnings' are actually complete junk, so no need to blush !

RebeccaMumsnet · 29/08/2012 10:17

Just zapping the spammy links, nothing else

NetworkGuy · 29/08/2012 10:18

Lucky madam - one of the privileged few who can edit a post.

Now stop telling us we cannot must not be allowed to !

NetworkGuy · 29/08/2012 10:44

test 1

NetworkGuy · 29/08/2012 10:45

eye-sores.blogspot.co.uk/2005_10_01_archive.html test 2

(first test was link made by me, second test using MN 'convert links automatically')

GetOrfMoiCuntCake · 29/08/2012 10:54

lol - thankfully the OP got there in the end, I should have just left it for networkguy to explain.

That is the last time I try to give technical instructions on mumsnet. Grin

NetworkGuy · 29/08/2012 10:58

Found a link ( on this post www.mumsnet.com/Talk/other/1550836#33806231 ) which also had all the Google junk in. Had wondered if it was being inserted via your MN 'convert links' but it seems not.

NetworkGuy · 29/08/2012 11:02

but sometimes I am asleep, GetOrf, so it always needs someone alert to try to help.

Someone else would have a go at me if I said how I add links as I usually do things like *> this

GetOrfMoiCuntCake · 29/08/2012 11:04

Oh you should go round the boards doing stuff like those rogue looking links - that would confuse everyone. Grin

if this works I'll be amazed!

bitgoldbutstillbewildered · 18/09/2012 23:01
