I think I might be a bit cross or possibly peeved.

I was on a thread yesterday that got deleted. I read it all again today and STILL cannot figure out why it was deleted and no reason was given. If it was due to the goady nature of the op, other far worse ones have stood and got bunfighty despite people saying they reported it.

You say you want us to self police - I have seen loads of excellent examples of that happening of late, especially with some of the odder trolls ops the last couple of weeks.

I think if you don't let some threads stand than the goaders get away with goading as they can keep repeatedly writing ops like this safe in the knowledge that you will delete them and any ticking off they get will be behind the scenes.

This leaves the rest of us wondering what possible reason you have for penalising the contributors to a largely harmless thread ad indulging people who continually allude to other posters being snipey bullies.

HQ I know you're busy. I know these things annoy you. But if you keep taking this course of action it will make Mnet look cliguey and like a playground. Your posts simply radiate eye-rolling at the moment. I appreciate you are fed up with the harping on, and no it's a lighthearted in your responses, but please if you are not prepared to deal with ops like this at the source and stamp it out that way, then don't get all trigger happy with the red button and cross when people want to know WTAF is going on.

I think at times you let your self be manipulated, or you certainly appear that way.

I'm sorry for being a miserable cow, but I am fed up of being on cracking threads with some really nice Mnetters only for them being deleted without reason. Sad

I have a fatless sponge recipe.

4 eggs
300g caster suger
300g sr flour.

Cook at about 180 degrees until you remember it's in the oven.

Sorted.

Then ruin fatless effect by piling in loads of buttercream and jam.

ThisWeekonFancyPuffin · 01/08/2012 18:21

It's a bit

Everyone is equal but some are more equal than others

NettOlympicSuperstar · 01/08/2012 18:24

Isn't there fat in eggs?

NettOlympicSuperstar · 01/08/2012 18:25

I must pm Reality and ask about the artichoke, so I know whether I need to buy some or just carry on with the jar/deli ones.

HappyHippyChick · 01/08/2012 18:29

Tell me more about this carb free cheesecake...

HoneyDragonSponseredByCocaCola · 01/08/2012 18:32

Reality thought it was horrible, the dc's loved it

Astr0naut · 01/08/2012 18:34

Nett Ah.

FrankWippery · 01/08/2012 18:36

Netto - there is SUCH a difference between eating an artichoke and the tins of hearts, you get the double bonus of picking, dipping and sucking (as you were) and then the heart at the end. What's not to love.

I like the idea of trolls having their threads closed but not deleted, and their posts coloured shit-brown.

NettOlympicSuperstar · 01/08/2012 19:35

So do I buy artichokes or not?

JUbilympiX · 01/08/2012 19:37

Artichokes are amongst my favourite foods.

JUbilympiX · 01/08/2012 19:37

Yes.

That's my problem, nothing is left to stand. People are shat upon for pointing out that namechanging to "protect themselves" doesn't work if you tell everyone who you are.

Saying you are keeping your name as you have nothing to hide, and having posts deleted makes me all eye rolly too.

And I don't understand all this banning crap either. It appears some posters have a revolving door here and others names can't even be mentioned without a thread going poof, despite them being long gone.

Evening. Do you know I've no idea which thread your talking about Shock

But, unless we have an MNHQ interloper, we don't delete threads simply because the OP doesn't like the turn the thread has taken.

And there is def no revolving door for banned posters. We do sometimes temporarily suspend folks if we want to get their attention really properly if they don't listen to our warning mails but once you're banned permanently, you're banned, full stop.

Sportofino · 01/08/2012 20:21

Yes, but Helen, it seems that these days it the wrong posters getting banned. So you can post any old bolleaux you like and not be banned, but the ones who call people on it by asking challenging questions or querying inconsistencies are immediately accused of troll hunting and banned. My worry is that MN will end up with thread loads of crap and become a DM type place with misogynism and racism rife. Going on recent activity that seems to be happening already. If you want us to self police it, please LET US!

OK, by self-policing we don't mean going around sorting out the boards, telling posters they're trolls/implying their trolls etc etc.

When we used that term, we were talking about threads where someone says something wrong/offensive and, instead of us deleting it, we find another MNer (or 2000) comes along to point out where their argument fails/opinion is dodgy.

If someone is trolling, in your opinion, just report it. Then we can ban the fuckers deal with it.

If you decide to tell them you think they're trolling on the boards yourselves, you run the risk of a) being wrong and causing huge upset b) giving a real troll the bunfight he/she wanted c) breaking our guidelines d) causing us hassle deleting your posts e) making it more difficult to ban the fuckers deal with it because the possible troll can claim (not without reason) that they're being attacked...

Sportofino · 01/08/2012 20:35

But the recent threads that have been deleted have been nothing to do with trollhunting. I don't recall that anyone was accused of being a troll. Pointing out that certain posters might be misjudged in posting certain things is not troll hunting.

HoneyDragonSponseredByCocaCola · 01/08/2012 20:37

Helen

The fact is there was no reason to delete the thread. None. Nada. Diddly.

No reason was given to why the thread was deleted, other than a thank you to the people who reported it.

It keeps happening.

I know moderating this place ain't easy. But way too many Mnetters are getting caught in the crossfire.

This keeps happening.

You oft mention the spirit of Mnet, well sorry but consistently shit stirring and letting others pay for it is not in the spirit of mnet. You like it when we rally ourselves around other Mnetters and are quick to show your support, but you don't like it when we we call out some posters on shoddy behaviour. Whether it is your intention or not, you are letting the side down and repeatedly favouring the goaders.

OP posts:
HoneyDragonSponseredByCocaCola · 01/08/2012 20:39

Helen.

The poster was called on it. Then the thread moved on very quickly. A couple of posts may have been on the cusp, but no personal attacks were made and I think the guidelines were followed.

No, it doesn't sound like it would. Forgive me for not knowing which threads you're talking about. I just bobbed in tonight to see how things were. If you mail in to [email protected], though, and give us some detail, am sure we'll be able to be more helpful.

I'm off now till the morning but CatherineMumsnet is around and will, I'm sure, more than happy to help.

Has the OP of the goading thread returned again yet??
