When I click on someones name I get this message:

To protect your privacy, we need to confirm your password to give you access to the requested page.

It's never done that to me before is that a new thing?

BadgersRetreat · 26/06/2012 17:57

oh i got that yesterday for the first time....thought i hadn't logged in

Portofino · 26/06/2012 17:57

Makes sense - only members could view your profile.

GoOnTim · 26/06/2012 17:58

Ooh how weird, me too.
I'll report my post to get HQ to have a gander.

usualsuspect · 26/06/2012 17:58

I thought only members could view profiles

HecateAdonaea · 26/06/2012 17:59

Yes, I got that message. But not every time. I was logged in already, so it wasn't thinking a non member was trying to access profiles. I suspect it's randomly checking or something?

rhondajean · 26/06/2012 18:00

Yep I've just tried to look at hecates profile (closest) and its done that to me too.

PogoBob · 26/06/2012 18:01

I was getting this yesterday figured it was laptop being dull and logging me out!

RandomNumbers · 26/06/2012 18:01

Yes had that earlier

Wasn't being nosy, stupid fat sausage fingers to blame grrr

GoOnTim · 26/06/2012 18:03

I had this earlier when I namechanged, which was odd.

So it's only a couple of hours since I last put my password in.

That is far too stringent security settings and will be fecking annoying.

I like a good nosey about.

OlaRapaceFru · 26/06/2012 18:03

I think it's new.

If you were already logged in, you could click on a nickname and get a MNers profile - if they'd made it public in the first place.

And, after all, you can't access people's profiles if you're not a member anyway.

But now it seems that if you click on a nickname, you're then asked to log in again. Confused

IamtheZombie · 26/06/2012 18:06

HQ have added more security. You now have to confirm a name change by entering your password at the end of the page.

Zombie asked Tech last night about the viewing profiles thingy and he said that was probably a step too far. The first time she tried to view a profile this morning she had to enter her password. But since that she's been able to view others without entering the password again.

DanyTargaryen · 26/06/2012 18:10

Thats the thing I'm always logged in when I do so. Hm.

OP posts:
OlaRapaceFru · 26/06/2012 18:12

Yes, but they're now asking you to log in again. 'Tis a new thing.

IamtheZombie · 26/06/2012 18:19

Site Stuff thread from last night:

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/site_stuff/1503442-Cant-namechange?msgid=32572461

MirandaWest · 26/06/2012 18:23

I'm always logged in and just tried looking at a profile and had to give my password again.

Then tried looking at a different one and didn't have to.

OlaRapaceFru · 26/06/2012 18:28

Zombie, I thought that DanyT's question related to trying to click on another MNers NN to have a look at their profile - and then being asked to log in again, even though you're already logged in (which appears to be new scenario) - nothing to do with namechanging itself ... unless I've missed the point of both this thread and the one you've linked to? Blush

GoOnTim · 26/06/2012 18:32

What Ole said

5madthings · 26/06/2012 18:34

oh it did this to me as well today, i though it was a glitcht, i always tick the 'leave me logged in till i log out' option. so am always logged in iyswim? and wondered why it was asking me to do so again!

IamtheZombie · 26/06/2012 18:34

Yes, Ola, you're right. But Zombie used that thread to question Tech about the password being required to access a profile.

Zombie also stays permanently logged into MN. But she does close her browser from time to time. She suspects that there is now a cookie which will expire when a session is terminated - i.e. by closing the browser - that requires inputting the password the first time in each session that you try to view a profile.

Tee2072 · 26/06/2012 18:35

You have to login again to view a profile now. I just tested it.

PomBearWithAnOFRS · 26/06/2012 18:37

Oh ffs. I just leave it logged in all the time and have no idea what my password is Confused
I shall probably never view a profile again - my ah, sporn activities will be curtailed!

Tee2072 · 26/06/2012 19:23

But don't you need to log in again to change names, Pom? I always do.

S'ok it is a Tech glitch due to some recent registrations changes he has been working on.

Hopefully it will be back to normal soon.

Apologies Blush Wine

We have moved this thread to Site Stuff btw.
