mn hq, contentious I know, but is there a way of blocking posters from posting on specific threads?

I realize this is an open forum, people are entitled to their opinions etc etc.

But really, when someone is being so offensive on a particular thread that they are having multiple posts deleted, wouldn't it be better that they be blocked from posting on that particular thread? (assuming this is possible).

Obviously this could be judged on a thread by thread basis, but sometimes when an op of a thread is seeking real support and understanding, the thread gets derailed by vile comments from one or two individuals, and those who challenge the comments of those individuals, to the extent the op is often scared away.

It would be a middle ground between banning a poster and letting them go unchallenged, surely? They would then be free to go and start a bunfight post a challenging op elsewhere and could then be challenged on it on their own thread instead of derailing someone else's.

thoughts?

Pinot, were you gone?

Grin

Good to see you.

Pinot · 15/03/2012 20:58

I was gone, busy fattening up my bosom.

Shiney are you Shiney again?

Nagoo · 15/03/2012 20:59

AIBU is a rhetorical question, isn't it? :)

fabwoman · 15/03/2012 20:59

Would have been great if it could have been done. I reported her and she has agreed to leave the thread.

Tee2072 · 15/03/2012 21:01

Well, I know when I lose weight I lose my bosom and my bottom, so I currently have fat bosoms as well, if that makes you feel better.

Pinot · 15/03/2012 21:04

It does a bit Tee, ta love :) How's da boy?

Tee2072 · 15/03/2012 21:06

Snoring his head off. I am hoping this does not mean yet another cold on the horizon!

I was just looking at your kitten pictures again and am ded from teh cute!

Pinot · 15/03/2012 21:08

Naw, they were teeny tiny. Bonkers innit. They're 11 months now and getting all fat from too many Dreamies (cat treats). I don't know what they put in those things, they're like cat cocaine Hmm Grin

Tee2072 · 15/03/2012 21:09

Probably cocaine. Grin

We want a cat but our landlord said no. [pout]

Pinot · 15/03/2012 21:22

WHAT? Your LL is a nobber. Tsk.

Tee2072 · 15/03/2012 21:28

True. But it's a lovely house!

LizaTarbucksAuntie · 15/03/2012 21:32

Shirley - apologies, I wasn't clear at all. I meant the email I got did not reflect the posters opinion - that they felt sorry for the poster, not your opinion.

It was pleasing to see so many of the damaging threads removed. I agree I can't see how we can be posting here with a side bar proclaiming 'We believe you' and then going...oh well under certain circumstances we do..... It's the timing that rankles with me the most.

ChippingInNeedsCoffee · 15/03/2012 21:33

Pinot - Welcome Home! You were missed!!!

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 15/03/2012 21:50

Surely t'would be easy to say that if you are deleted, say, three times on a thread; you are not really contributing in a meaningful way and could be banned from the thread.

ShirleyKnot · 15/03/2012 21:54

Liza - yes. I cannot see how MN can run such an amazing, empowering and sensitive campaign WITHOUT taking a strong, powerful stance against those who either knowingly, or unwittingly promote the very opposite of We Believe You - the 'Why didn't you say NO?' the 'He's your husband!' the 'He probably didn't KNOW!'

NO.

Fair point, BeerTricks, but then they'd just have to learn to start a new post before the personal attack be polite, wouldn't they.

Oh yes the hide poster thigy

oh yes please
yyyyyyy

LizaTarbucksAuntie · 16/03/2012 08:23

Shirley - totally agree and the worst part is that it's probably the campaign that has encouraged scared people to speak out and then they have to justify themselves.

Hope you have a better day today

ThisWeekonFancyPuffin · 16/03/2012 08:36

I have very fat norks, when board I push them together and rest my chin s on them Smile

I think twatty posters should be redirected to a MN replica and left to it.
