Ah, now I've got your attention MNHQ; I can almost here the klaxon sounding from here. Smile

I don't mean that F4J, I mean this one;

Fellwalkers4Justice ©GrimmaTheNome

What's happening with our new topic? Eh? Eh?

OP posts:
QuintessentialyHollow · 13/03/2012 23:43

I had my FINEST moment on that thread.

I think my 10 steps for Wild Shitting should somehow be epitomized.

SaggyOldClothCatPuss · 13/03/2012 23:44

Grin well it is shite outdoors!

I could fit in well on this new topic, i spend most of my time outside shovelling shite!

GrimmaTheNome · 13/03/2012 23:48

Oh yes, Quint's post qualifies.

That's the thing about Outdoorsy Shite. You know when you've stepped in the real thing.

(I don't dig holes for my dog but I have had to wipe his bottom occasionally. I imagine most people omit that step for their canine walking buddies)

Slubberdegullion · 14/03/2012 00:00

Wicking socks Olivia. Why would anyone want a non-wicking sock? That would be like going outdoors for pleasant stroll in verucca socks.

Outdoorsy Shite (the name) has to stay now. We're too well settled in with it now for it to be changed. And anyway it shortens to OS which still pleases me.

Other things we want to talk about is
Nature
Walks
Outdoor gear encompassing a whole shed load of gore-tex and fugly alternatives to the school run coat that actually keep you warm and dry and also have a map pocket.
Geo-caching
Energetic outdoor activities such as climbing, fell running, that thing when you run with your bike over your shoulder, paddling about in things.
Cafes that do a nice mug of tea and bacon butty when you have completed said outdoor activities.
Edible fungi
Non edible fungi
How to hide to spot stuff

Oh it just goes on and on.

And I BET there'll be no shit-storms on OS. Joy and health and warm-fuzzy feelings it will give back to the board. Just like the campers and knitters and those chicken people.

QuintessentialyHollow · 14/03/2012 00:03

Actually. Os is not inventive enough. It has to encompass the outdoorsy spirit totally and be called QS.

AIBUqatada · 14/03/2012 07:49

Outdoorsy Stuff? [lame]

On the Beaten Track? (since the MN secretists have taken all the quieter routes)

SeaShellsDreamingOfSummer · 14/03/2012 07:58

Outdoorsy Shite (OS) is v good.. We just need a robust poo troll policy incase of wierdos, or QS Wink

poohbearrocks · 14/03/2012 08:15

I need an app. I want to point this phone at random insects leaves trees etc. Then I want this phone ( that appears to do everything apart from make a decent cup of tea) to tell me what the leaf insect tree etc is.

Does anyone know of an app? If not if someone terribly clever makes one I will buy it!

ArielNonBio · 14/03/2012 08:21

Goretex. There will be Goretex.

Northey · 14/03/2012 08:35

And Vibram soles.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 14/03/2012 08:38

Hello Olivia Apologies for the klaxon.

I went to bed. Have to be up with the larks y'know, see the sunrise, and the morning dew.

(not really, I'm a lazy moo TBH)

It's got to be Ourdoorsy Shite.

OP posts:
saggarmakersbottomknocker · 14/03/2012 08:38

And Matt Baker.

OP posts:
FryingNemo · 14/03/2012 09:00

And texapore.

QuintessentialyHollow · 14/03/2012 09:09

Did anyone mention Merino Base layers?

Grin
GrimmaTheNome · 14/03/2012 09:22

pooh - I don't know of an app that does that. DH has apps to help identify birds and plants, but they aren't that slick yet. Don't know what they are called.

We need a thread for Outdoorsy Shite: apps but might be better for someone who can make some proper recommendations to start it.

Northey · 14/03/2012 09:29

Maybe that nice tech person could turn out to e an outdoorsy type too, and could feed off our ideas to create fantastic mumsnet nature apps - a whole new lovely revenue stream!

Slubberdegullion · 14/03/2012 14:32

I am in my merino base layers right now QS. All three of them (well one is technically a mid layer).

Another vote for Matt Baker, or any of the Spring Watch crew.

FryingNemo · 14/03/2012 14:48

So now would be a bad time to mention that it is 17 degrees here?

ArielNonBio · 14/03/2012 16:53

Where?

(Talking of Springwatch, where do we stand on the Kate vs Michaela thing? I like Michaela MUCH better. Will she be there for SW 2012, does anyone know?)

Northey · 14/03/2012 17:00

I'm a Kate girl. She lives down the road from me, atcherly.

CarpeJugulum · 14/03/2012 17:03

I miss Bill Oddie

Not strictly relevant to topic, but still...

ArielNonBio · 14/03/2012 17:07

I hate the way Kate talks as though she never knows where her sentences are going to end up when she starts them, fill of "ahs" and "ums".

Kate's farm in Powys, Norf? Maybe you can help with lambing live this year?

Northey · 14/03/2012 17:09

It's in Monmouthshire, rierie. Stop trying to take Kate away from me.

ArielNonBio · 14/03/2012 17:11
Grin

Well I'm not doing that am I? Otherwise I would be trying to entice her across the Tamar.

You're still sore about the sparrows aren't you? Aren't you?

Northey · 14/03/2012 17:20

Maybe. And jealous about the basking sharks.
