Please MNHQ, could you be a bit more specific about why you have deleted a post?

On a thread running at the moment, several posts have been deleted. (One of mine included!)

I knew mine would be deleted because it could have been construed as troll-hunting, and I also suggested that the OP might be researching an article/story.

The 'key' post was deleted because it was a personal insult.

Now, though, the upshot of it is that it looks like lots of people have been insulting others, whereas in fact the other posts that were deleted were those suggesting that the OP might not be genuine.

I get that if you put 'message deleted because it was troll-hunting', that you might as well leave the original posts (Grin), but it would be helpful if you could have put 'message deleted because it contravenes Talk guidelines' and then 'message deleted because it contained a personal insult'

Or something.

Otherwise we're all tarred with the same brush, IYSWIM.

What did I mean when I said swearing? I think I meant troll-hunting. Anyhooo.

HelenMumsnet · 09/01/2012 19:37

Quite like "Message deleted by Mumsnet for being a smartarse"...

But seriously, although we do see your point, we couldn't possibly do this. It would something like quintuple our workload. And anyway you lot would all mail in and say things like "But I wasn't being a smartarse, I was being too clever for my own good. Please change the reason for deletion."

In prefect-like fashion, I'd also like to point out that

a) You could always report the person who's (wrongly) implying that you're all being rude to her - and we could then set her right/post on the thread.

b) If you didn't break the Guidelines in the first place, you wouldn't be deleted

S'funny Grin

SecretNutellaFix · 09/01/2012 20:06

I use it myself MaryZ.

I do agree that we should be told why a post has gone.

BecauseImAWinja · 09/01/2012 20:11

Without wishing to cast further nasturtiums, Helen, why would it cause further work? All you would have to do is to type a different message.

It may seem petty, but it really pains me to think that other posters will think I was being personally offensive to the OP on that thread - which I most certainly wasn't.

BecauseImAWinja · 09/01/2012 20:11

Oh look - I'm definitely winjing now ...

Grin
SuePurblybilt · 09/01/2012 20:16

Later on he says Ninja, Pinot. A nija sneaking up on another Ninja.

Will we all log the deletions then? So if BIWI gets deleted, above, I will post BIWI was mean to Pinot but not racist. So that peoples know

OnlyANinja · 09/01/2012 20:16

Please Miss, I did personally attack the OP but I did it in a smartarse way so can I have the smartarse button not the personal attack button?

Do you have a tinge of the ginge in your minge fringe Pinot?

OnlyANinja · 09/01/2012 20:16

Hover over my name please everyone.

PinotBlahBlah · 09/01/2012 20:23

I am a Ginger and Proud, Ninja yes. As are my sons and my sister.

P.S. BIWI if you are ever meanz to me I shall cry. Probably with snottage. Just so we're all clear Grin

BecauseImAWinja · 09/01/2012 20:54

Pinot - I'm never mean!

Popbiscuit · 10/01/2012 00:00

How about:

Message deleted for lack of ninja-like stealth? Wink

or alternatively,

Message deleted for obvious and superfluous name-changery?

differentnameforthis · 10/01/2012 00:28

"But I wasn't being a smartarse, I was being too clever for my own good. Please change the reason for deletion."

That is SO true!

PinotBlahBlah · 10/01/2012 10:51

S'true Biwi. That's why I luffs you so.

BIWI · 10/01/2012 10:52

... although I have been a bit pointed on that particular thread Blush

YuleingFanjo · 10/01/2012 11:09

can you ask 'are you a fucking journalist?'?
