Please MNHQ, could you be a bit more specific about why you have deleted a post?

On a thread running at the moment, several posts have been deleted. (One of mine included!)

I knew mine would be deleted because it could have been construed as troll-hunting, and I also suggested that the OP might be researching an article/story.

The 'key' post was deleted because it was a personal insult.

Now, though, the upshot of it is that it looks like lots of people have been insulting others, whereas in fact the other posts that were deleted were those suggesting that the OP might not be genuine.

I get that if you put 'message deleted because it was troll-hunting', that you might as well leave the original posts (), but it would be helpful if you could have put 'message deleted because it contravenes Talk guidelines' and then 'message deleted because it contained a personal insult'

Or something.

Otherwise we're all tarred with the same brush, IYSWIM.

But seriously, although we do see your point, we couldn't possibly do this. It would something like quintuple our workload. And anyway you lot would all mail in and say things like "But I wasn't being a smartarse, I was being too clever for my own good. Please change the reason for deletion."

In prefect-like fashion, I'd also like to point out that

a) You could always report the person who's (wrongly) implying that you're all being rude to her - and we could then set her right/post on the thread.

b) If you didn't break the Guidelines in the first place, you wouldn't be deleted

I do agree that we should be told why a post has gone.

Without wishing to cast further nasturtiums, Helen, why would it cause further work? All you would have to do is to type a different message.

It may seem petty, but it really pains me to think that other posters will think I was being personally offensive to the OP on that thread - which I most certainly wasn't.
