Merging threads. Can and should MNHQ do this?

Sometimes more than one thread pops up, in the same forum, at the same time and on the same subject.

Today's example is made up of the two RIP threads for Bob Holness appearing in Chat within minutes of each other.

Would it be technically possible to merge the two, so that all the comments were together? It would make for a more comprehensive and inclusive thread, and it would be just nice to see all the comments together.

Would anyone else think this a good idea?

No no. It needs to be a vote. There needs to be ructions Grin

And maybe get a MNer on payroll to do it. Now who is good with surveys? Wink

Trills · 06/01/2012 17:26

I think it would make a big mess.

Or wrestling. Wrestle for thread supremacy??

Trills · 06/01/2012 17:27

I am very much for the idea of having only one thread on a TV show or death or news event, but merging would be messy. Whose posts would you put first? Would you put one thread above the other or put them in chronological order? If people said they were replying to "the OP?" how would we know who and what they meant?

MaryZed · 06/01/2012 17:28

That would indeed make it fun messy Trills Grin

Or if they were merged interleaved by time it might look like someone posted something horribly insensitive, when the post just above them wasn't actually there at the time.
