No it isn't, silverfrog. We -thought it might cause a revolt-- know Classic users generally like to keep things as they are.

I always have most recent poster showing, but now I have a middle column with the OP for each thread showing; I didn't ask it to do this.

Tethers, you can also go to Customise and switch this view off. It's under Other Options.
