For instance, tonight I was searching for all instances of "shame on you" - (so I could put all users of this dreadful old phrase on my shitlist Wink) in the last month.

But instead I got all threads that had the word "shame" in them, which is not the same thing at all.

Could we please have a button for "exact phrase only" or summat like that?

Thanks

Thank you for your request.
I don't know the technical requirements to do that so I can't promise anything but it will be noted in tech's scruffy notebook

Have you still got your Hallowe'en name on?

WTF are my crisps actually?
Some bugger must have eaten them.

Hello there,

Tech has posted a response to this same (I think) question here

Basically, we do see your point but the Tech team have a million things on their list at the moment, so it might be a while.

Sorry not to be more helpful

If you use the Site Search rather than the Talk search you can do exactly this - put quotes around the phrase and it will search for that exact phrase. It will search the whole site, rather than just Talk, but you'll likely get what you want. If the phrase appears in the thread title that will likely come out at the top of the results, followed by threads where it appeared in the body of the posts.

It's actually a Google search, so you can do other things too, like:

Search for "shame on you" but not in Telly addicts or Pedants' corner

Search for the phrase "about SOMETHING OR OTHER all the time"

Watch this thread for updates

Tap "Watch" to get all the latest updates

End of posts
