I use the exclude function. Although it is the most useless of the AND/OR/NOT operatives, IMO.

It's quite useful if you want to search for (random example) opinions on twilight sleep but you don't want 286868 threads clogging up the results which are about the film twilight. So you would put "twilight sleep" into the search box and "bella edward" into the exclude box.
