Avatars are the pictures you get next to each post - either pictures of the poster (or their kids) or cartoony images.

roisin · 17/12/2005 19:47

Was there really something in MN News about this, or is Cod just winding us up?

I think I must have 'read' mine and deleted it without actually reading it, iyswim

Does anyone still have it they can copy and paste?

LadyTophamInAChristmasHatt · 17/12/2005 19:49

i just read it again and didn't see anything, maybe we're both looking at the wrong thing, roisin.

SenoraPostrophe · 17/12/2005 19:53

lol. I think this is cod on a one woman campaign to get us to read the newsletters properly.

ChampsOnIce · 17/12/2005 21:33

chipmonksRoastingOnAnOpenFire · 18/12/2005 01:29

tickers are bloody awful.

KaiserSoze · 18/12/2005 17:10

and the cheesy little quotes poeple have

hercules · 18/12/2005 17:11

remember when a mumsnetter posted on one of those sites how long it was to her next bowel movement.

Hulababy · 18/12/2005 17:12

Even if the site did get tickers and emoticon things there is normally an option on your own profile to turn them off - so you would never see them and be totally oblivous to the fact they were ever there.

KaiserSoze · 18/12/2005 17:13

so no point to them
mym baby is 3 years 3 days and 2 seconds
who gives a f

harpsiheraldangelssing · 18/12/2005 17:16

this is a joke though right?
right????

LadyTophamInAChristmasHatt · 18/12/2005 17:27

hula, would switching them off stop youseeing everone elses ?

I use another site that has tham and althouhg I like the site it does amke it look cheap, tacky and cheesy.

MN is minimalist and should stay that way.

Hulababy · 18/12/2005 17:31

Yes. It means you just don't see any avators, emoticons or tickers, etc - yours and everyone else.

baublerock · 18/12/2005 17:42

I think the best chat forum I've been on is moneysavingexpert and that's because they are moderated really well although not hugely sensored, just threads kept in the appropriate topics. You can thank members by clicking a button. They have avatars but they are not overpowering. You can edit or delete your own posts. You can see new posts like on Mumsnet (active convo's) or look through topics. You can see who started the thread and who last posted. It works really well

tillykins · 18/12/2005 18:28

I don't like the tickers but I do like the smileys! I'm for lots and lots and lots of smileys

Blandmum · 18/12/2005 18:31

The trouble with tickers is that some people go mad with them, and then I get peed off trying to find the thrad in amongts the '5 weeks and 3 days to my hyterectomy' tickers

harpsiheraldangelssing · 18/12/2005 18:33

seriously thought, am worried now
this is a wind up isn't it??
